Officers Return to the Job

Two of the officers involved in Jacob Blake’s shooting are back on the job. Kenosha’s police chief yesterday said the two officers who did not fire at Blake were returned from paid administrative leave. More WI Schools opt for Choice Programs

More schools across Wisconsin are taking part in the state’s choice programs. The Department of Public Instruction yesterday said more schools have enrolled to be a part of the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program. That’s the statewide choice program, DPI says 307 private schools and school systems are registered for the 2021-22 school year. That’s up 27 from the year before. DPI says Racine’s school choice program also grew this year. Milwaukee’s school choice program did not.

Senate Steps Back

The Assembly is taking a step back from a move to end the statewide mask mandate.  Speaker Robin VOS told reporters today that a memo from the Legislative Fiscal Bureau indicated such a move would jeopardize more than 49-million-dollars in federal food assistance.  States receive additional funding for SNAP benefits if they have emergency health orders in place.  Speaker Vos says he wants to make sure any resolution the Assembly passes doesn’t hurt the state financially.

WI DHS Reports Coronavirus Cases Ticking Up

The State Department of Health reports 18-hundred-and-two new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.  That pushes the total number of cases to over 538-thousand.  There are over 20-thousand active cases statewide.  Officials also confirmed 24 deaths today which raises the total death toll to five-thousand-811. WI Connection to Deadly Wyoming Crash

A crash in Wyoming has local connections. It was on January 27th that a fatal crash occurred around milepost 106 on Wyoming 220 west of Casper, Wyoming. It happened a little before 9:30 in the morning as Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were notified ofa one-vehicle rollover. The Eau Claire City-County Health Department says the rate of positive tests and cases has improved, but the county is still seeing an average 25-new cases per day. Classes are back on at Chippewa Valley Technical College after a system-wide network outage shut down campus. The shutdown delayed the start of the spring semester which was originally scheduled to start Monday. They say the system breach didn’t affect any student or faculty information.
