A proposed mask mandate in Eau Claire County could be met with a 200-dollar fine if violated. The Eau Claire City-County Health Department says the ordinance is nearly the same as the state-level mandate, although businesses would be required to put up signage stating that face coverings are required for entry. Local Donations to Help EC Jail

The Eau Claire County jail is stocked up with sanitizing wipes and other supplies. The Western Dairyland Community Action Agency dropped off the donation Tuesday morning. The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office says the donation will help the jail stay COVID-free.  There are currently no positive cases of COVID-19 at the jail, no hospitalizations, and no deaths.

The Powerball drawing tonight could make someone a multi-millionaire. The Powerball jackpot is now at an estimated 550-million-dollars, or 411-million-dollars for the cash option. The Wisconsin Lottery says the last winner of the Mega Millions jackpot earning 120-million-dollars was a Racine man who purchased the ticket at a Mount Pleasant Kwik Trip in September 2020. The Mega Millions Jackpot is now at 750-million-dollars, or 550-million-dollars cash. The drawing for that is Friday.

Complete and “Udder” Distraction

A school district near Milwaukee experienced a disruption during afternoon pick-ups after a group of brown cows meanders through. On Facebook, the school says a few cows got loose near the school, so several staff members dressed for crossing guard duty went to work as cattle herders. In a video that’s now gone viral, the cows are seen strutting along the school’s fence line, right next to a parent’s car awaiting pick-up.

EC Man Appears in Court

An Eau Claire man is looking at charges for walking into the U.S. Capitol last week. The FBI interviewed 52-year-old Kevin Loftus on Saturday. Loftus posted pictures from last week’s chaos at the Capitol that said he is one of 700 who walked inside. He also said he’s wanted by the FBI. There’s no evidence that Loftus did anything inside the Capitol but take pictures. He appeared in court yesterday.

A 16-year-old southern Wisconsin teen is looking at adult homicide charges after police say he shot his five-day-old baby in the head and left her to die in a fallen tree. Unsurprisingly, Wisconsin’s members of Congress are split along party lines on President Trump’s impeachment. Milwaukee Democrat Gwen Moore says the president needs to be impeached for inciting last week’s riot at the nation’s Capitol. So do western Wisconsin’s Ron Kind and Madison’s Mark Pocan. Taxing Times in WI?

A new report says Wisconsin’s tax burden is down. The Wisconsin Policy Forum released a report yesterday that says the total tax burden in Wisconsin fell to just over 10-percent last year, that’s down from 13-percent in 1994. The Policy Forum says total taxes in the state, including income taxes, property taxes, and sales taxes actually went-up about two-and-a-half-percent last year.
