WI U.S. Senate Race Has New Hat in the Ring

The race for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin next year just got more interesting. Alex Lasry, the son of Milwaukee Bucks owner Marc Lasry, jumped into the race last night. Lasry is 34-years old, and has lived and worked in New York City. He says he will bring a fresh perspective to the race. Democrats in Milwaukee have already lined-up behind him. UPDATE: Missing Cumberland Man Found

On Tuesday, February 16, 2021 the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a homeowner on the west side of Silver Lake reporting a truck crashed on the shoreline of his property. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Department, along with the WI DNR, were already on the lake searching the area and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the body of the missing person, Ben Jacobson, deceased along with his truck that crashed into an embankment and brush.

WI Daily Coronavirus Cases Top 600

The Wisconsin Department of Health reports 624 new COVID-19 cases confirmed statewide.  Today’s data pushes the number of overall confirmed cases to more than 556-thousand.  There were 38 additional deaths recorded today, raising that toll to six-thousand-204.

Woman Charged in Death of Baby

An Algoma woman is facing multiple charges including neglecting a child resulting in death.  Cheyanne Wierichs was arrested yesterday in connection with the death of her seven-month-old baby who drowned in a bathtub after being left unattended.  Authorities say Wierichs was bathing multiple children when she left the room and when she returned her baby was face down in water.  Methamphetamine was found in the house, which adds drug charges to the neglect counts.

EC Health Officials Identify COVID-19 Variant Cases Locally

Two additional individuals who recently tested positive for COVID- 19 were found to have the variant strain B.1.1.7. This is the strain that was first discovered circulating widely in England during November and December 2020. Researchers believe that this new strain spreads more rapidly and easily than the original strain of SARS-CoV-2.
