FLU SEASON TURNS DEADLY

The flu is already claiming lives in Wisconsin.  Six people have died this flu season with around 40 people hospitalized since early September.  Health officials say the victims were over the age of 65.  Doctors say the flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself from getting the virus.

WI BUSINESSES OFFERING SPECIALS TO OUR VETS

Restaurants and retailers across Wisconsin are offering specials for veterans and active duty to commemorate Veterans’ Day.  Applebee’s and Chilli’s have free meals from a limited menu and Golden Corral offers free dinner on Monday.  The Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley is offering free bowling for vets and soldiers on Monday and a free haircut is available at Great Clips.  Active military and veterans also have free admission on Monday to the Packers Hall of Fame.

WI GAS PRICES DIP BELOW AVERAGE

The average cost for regular gas in Wisconsin remains well below the national average.  Triple-A says the price statewide is two-dollars-and-40-cents today.  That’s 22-cents-below the national price of two-62-a-gallon.  Drivers in neighboring Illinois are paying two-67 for regular and in Iowa the average price is two-46.

HUNTERS ASKED TO HELP IN VANDALISM CASES

The Barron County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a case where a tree stand was tore down and vandalized in the Prairie Farm area of Barron County and ahead of the gun hunt season, it appears that this may be tied to several other cases in Dunn Co where hunting stands, trail cameras were damaged, tore down and/or vandalized. MAN ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSAULTING A CHILD

An Eau Claire man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl while she slept.  The victim claims David Balistreri touched her last Saturday night, but he claimed he was only looking for a pillow and left.  The victim’s father says Balistreri had been playing poker that night and was drunk.  He’s out on bond and will return to court on November 19th.

GIFT CARD SCAM STOPPED BY EC STORE

An Eau Claire Best Buy is credited for saving a woman from a phone scam.  Police say the woman tried to buy two-thousand-dollars worth of gift cards for someone claiming to be her grandson’s attorney.  He claimed he needed the gift cards to bail her grandson out of jail in Chicago.  Police say employees at the Best Buy and an officer stopped her before she bought the cards.

OPEN SEAT NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

The Eau Claire School Board is now taking applications for its open seat.  The seat was vacated by Joe Luginbill last month after he took a new job that will force him to work part-time in Washington, DC.  Applicants have until November 26th to send in their applications.  A new member is expected to be picked by December 4th.

FIRE DAMAGES EYE CLINIC

You may have heard the sirens last evening about 6 as crews responded to a fire in Eau Claire. A report came in of smoke coming from the Chippewa Valley Eye Clinic, and crews arrived at the clinic on Damon Street and as of now we know the damages ring in at nearly $4.5 Million.

MENOMONIE MUSTANGS NOT HORSING AROUND

The superintendent in Menomonie schools says the students involved in the latest school threat may not understand how serious those threats are. Superintendent Joe Zydowsky says a threat to the school yesterday has been dealt with, and ‘appropriate legal actions’ are being taken. The superintendent is not saying what the threat included, but he does say some of the students involved may not understand the kind of fear they cause when they make threats against the school.
