WI Confirms 450+ New Covid-19 Cases

State health officials are confirming 463 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.  That boosts the total number of cases statewide to over 567-thousand-300 over the last year.  There were 29 deaths reported today, which raises the toll of Wisconsinites to die from COVID-19 to over six-thousand-500. DNR Asking for Fowl Language

The Department of Natural Resources wants bird hunters’ input about the upcoming hunting season.  The DNR will hold virtual public meetings next week on the 16th, 17th and 18th and they would like feedback posted on their website on March 19th.  Because of COVID-19 restrictions last year the 2021 waterfowl season will be based on 2019 waterfowl population estimates.  Officials say they expect hunters to find good opportunities during the waterfowl season this fall. Safe Ending to an Emergency Landing

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office says a Michigan man made an emergency landing on a county highway.  Authorities say Joseph Fullerton was piloting the small craft over the weekend when the plane started to have engine problems.  A fuel line issue forced Fullerton to land the plane on State Highway 136 in the town of Baraboo.  Fortunately the sheriff says the highway was closed at the time and there were no injuries.

Maintenance Call Leads to Neglect Case

The District Attorney could consider possible neglect charges after an apartment is found uninhabitable. Police say a maintenance worker reported the conditions after working on a water leak nearby. Police say officers responded to find a parent living with a non-verbal adult in the apartment that was covered in feces. Police say the case was sent to the Department of Human Services, the Health Department, and the District Attorney.

EC City County Health Dept. Looks to Add

The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is looking for a full-time Epidemiologist or Public Health Specialist. The department posted the position on its Facebook page. They say it’ll be open until it’s filled, and interviews will begin the first week of April. It’s unclear if the job will replace any current positions.

Lawmakers Look to Equality

Some Democratic state lawmakers want to acknowledge March 31st as Transgender Day of Visibility in Wisconsin. Members of the L-G-B-T-Q-Caucus Senator Tim Carpenter and Representatives Greta Neubauer, Marisabel Cabrera, Lee Snodgrass and Mark Spreitzer released a joint statement to introduce the resolution to the legislature Monday. It says it seeks so acknowledge and elevate all transgender and non-binary Wisconsinites.

Court is Back in Session

Court is back in session in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.  He’s accused of killing George Floyd.  The prosecution is seeking to delay proceedings until a ruling is made on whether to reinstate a third-degree murder charge against Chauvin.  That charge is currently under review by the Minnesota Court of Appeals.  Chauvin was originally charged with third-degree murder last October, but Judge Peter Cahill dismissed it, saying it didn’t apply to the case.  However, the Minnesota

WI Coronavirus Numbers Dip Again; CDC Updates Guidelines

You have to go back to last summer to see coronavirus numbers this low in Wisconsin. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported a seven-day positive rate of just over two-percent.
