Budget Cuts Hit Hard

Budget cuts in the form of staff layoffs are expected for the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District. District leaders say this is due to an anticipated one-point-six-million-dollar budget deficit as a result of declining enrollment. The district plans to submit a preliminary budget plan to the school board at the end of March.

A Golden Apple for Local Teacher

A Locust Lane Elementary School teacher is being honored for her twenty-years of service with the school district. Yesterday, the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation presented Melissa Pritchard with the 2020-21 Golden Apple Award. In addition, Pritchard and the Locust Lane School will also receive five-hundred dollars each to be used for educational purposes.

Water Park Capitol Makes Construction Splash

Upgrades are being planned for Wisconsin Dells Parkway due to safety concerns. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is in the early stages of planning a project aimed at reducing traffic crashes along a two-mile stretch of the corridor from County Road A and East Adams Street. Several major attractions sit along this stretch, including Noah’s Ark and Mt. Olympus Theme and Water Park. Transportation officials say the project is estimated between ten to thirteen-million dollars, which will be funded partly from the Highway Safety

Name Changes Round the Bases

The signs, they are a-changin’.  Two new signs on I–94 were put in place in the overnight hours yesterday.  One sign with “American Family Field” has replaced the former “Miller Park” sign, and another now reads “Brewer Boulevard.”

Mother and Child Reunion

 A Wisconsin woman is finally spending time with her newborn child nearly three months after she gave birth while in a coma.  Kelsey Townsend was placed in a medically-induced coma in October after being hospitalized with COVID-19 while nine months pregnant.  Her baby, Lucy, tested negative for coronavirus.  The 32-year-old was recently discharged from the hospital and is now home with her husband and four children.

DHS Reporting Daily COVID-19 Cases Over 1K

The Department of Health services confirms one-thousand-177 COVID-19 cases statewide today.  The total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic totals over 545-thousand.  Officials are reporting 14 more death’s from the coronavirus, raising the death toll to over 59-hundred residents.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM WI DHS

Search Continues for Mall Shooter

The search continues for the suspect in the deadly Fox River Mall shooting.  In the meantime prosecutors have charged 17-year-old Dezman Ellis in connection with the shooting of Jovanni Frausto on Sunday.  Police say an argument between Ellis and Frausto prompted the shooting.  Ellis remains at-large.

February is National Heart Month.  The American Heart Association says heart disease is the number one killer in Wisconsin, edging out cancer.  About 12-thousand people die of heart disease annually in the state, but Wisconsin has the 24th lowest death rate from cardiovascular disease in the country.

Brewers Look to Lock in Second Baseman

It appears the Milwaukee Brewers have locked down their second baseman for the near future.  A report on the Major League Baseball Network says second baseman Kolten Wong has agreed to terms with the Brewers.  The agreement is reportedly for two years and 18 million dollars with an option for a third year.  Wong spent the first eight years of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals winning two Gold Gloves, hitting 53 home runs and posting a two-61 career
