There’s some cleaning-up and airing-out to do at the Mac Arthur Fields Apartments after a fire yesterday. Eau Claire firefighters say the fire was smoldering when they arrived. They quickly put it out. No one was hurt, but several people had to clear-out of their apartments because of the fire.

La Crosse Voter Fraud Not Intentional

Prosecutors in La Crosse are not going to file voter fraud charges against nearly a dozen people who registered to vote out of the local UPS store. The D.A. said none of the people appeared to be looking to break the law. Spirits Up as COVID-19 Cases are Down

The graph that tracks coronavirus cases in Wisconsin is almost flat. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said the positivity rate in Wisconsin is at one-point-seven-percent. That’s where it was in early March of last year. Wisconsin’s coronavirus cases peaked back in November. The positivity rate then was 17-and-a-half-percent.

Vaccination Requirement Up for Debate

There are a lot of people who don’t want to be required to get the coronavirus vaccine in Wisconsin, and many Wisconsin lawmakers are among them. Evers Names Re-Election Campaign

Governor Tony Evers is likely running for re-election. He has not made the official announcement, but yesterday the governor added a number of key people to his re-election campaign. Evers beat former Governor Scott Walker by about 30-thousand-votes in 2018. There’s a crowded field of likely Republican candidates, but no frontrunner yet.

Vote Ahead for WI Criminal Justice Reform Plan

There’s some opposition to one of Wisconsin’s latest criminal justice reform plans. Senator Jullian Bradley and Senator Andre Jacque yesterday voted against a plan that would allow some ex-cons to have their criminal records expunged. Bradley says with crime in Wisconsin spiking, he cannot support a plan to let former criminals ‘hide’ their criminal records. The proposal did get support from other Republicans though, and is now headed to the full Senate for a vote.

EMA Awards $1 Million to Village of La Valle

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) announced today that the village of La Valle, Wisc. was awarded $1,021,441 in Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds for the acquisition and demolition of five flood-prone properties. Arrests Made in Connection to Menominee Tribe Death

Menominee Tribal Police say four people are facing federal charges relating to the death of a woman on the reservation.  The body of Stephanie Greenspon was found last summer in an abandoned burned vehicle.  Police today say Emerson Reed, Kayla Childs, Keith Wilber Junior and Timothy Snider Junior have all been arrested in connection with the case.

WI Names New Athletic Director

 Wisconsin has a new athletic director and it is a former Badger offensive lineman.  Chancellor Rebecca Blank announced the decision today that Chris McIntosh will become the Director of UW-Athletics, succeeding Barry Alvarez on July 1st.  McIntosh was the captain of the 1999 and 2000 Rose Bowl teams and an All-American in 1999.  Alvarez says McIntosh’s leadership and intelligence made him a critical member of his staff for the past several years.
