Lawmakers Tour Fort McCoy

Lawmakers tour the Afghan refugee camp at Fort McCoy.  Yesterday U.S. Congresswomen Gwen Moore from Milwaukee and Ilhan Omar from Minneapolis visited the refugees at the request of the Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition.  The Democrat lawmakers were looking into the quality of care and treatment of the almost 13-thousand refugees who are on base.  Both Moore and Omar praised the military’s handling of the situation saying the refugees are being well taken care of.  The Congresswomen said some of refugees

WI Woman Faces 4th OWI

A driver is under arrest and faces her fourth OWI charge.   Wisconsin State Police stopped Amanda Brawders yesterday morning.  Investigators say the 39-year old was driving erratically on Highway 33 near Portage.  She was arrested after failing a sobriety test.  No injuries were reported.

Saying Goodbye to Snow Lily

An elderly polar bear at the Milwaukee County  Zoo is dead.  Snow Lilly was 36-years old.  Zoo personnel euthanized her on Friday due to her declining health.  Snow Lilly was the oldest living bear in captivity in North America.

Search Continues for Missing Cumberland Woman

Police in Cumberland ask for the public’s help to find a missing woman.  Investigators say 43-year old Hailey Anderson was last seen leaving a casino in Turtle Lake on September 16.  She also made a phone call to a friend on September 16 saying her boyfriend hit her.  Cumberland Police say her phone was active yesterday near Luck.  Anyone who knows of her whereabouts is asked to contact Cumberland Police Chief Heather Wolfe.

More Chairs at Wisconsin’s Political Table

The race for Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor has new candidates.  In a video statement yesterday, Ben Voelkel, former aide for Senator Ron Johnson announced his intention to run for the office.   In addition, state senator Patrick Testin is expected to make an official announcement this Sunday that he too plans to run for the post.  Primaries are next August and the election follows in November 2022.

Charges Filed in Cases of Violence at Fort McCoy

An Afghan refugee faces charges of sexual misconduct with minors.  Federal officials say 20-year old Bahrullah Noori is in the Dane County jail after getting arrested a Fort McCoy.  Another refugee claims two teen relatives say Noori sexually molested them inside a restroom on base.  Noori is in jail without bond.  He has not yet entered a plea in the case.

Booster Shots Available at Hy-Vee

The COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine booster shots are available at Hy-Vee pharmacies.  The boosters are for those 65 and older and others with underlying health conditions who’ve already gotten the two shots of the Pfizer version of the vaccine.  Yesterday, the CDC said the booster will help bring an end to the pandemic.

WI COVID-19 Cases Continue Climb

State health officials are announcing over seven-thousand COVID related deaths as of today.  Officials also report 712-thousand 827 people have tested positive for the virus in the state as of today as well.  According to CDC data, all counties in the state of Wisconsin are currently categorized as having high COVID transmission levels.  Wisconsin residents are urged to resume wearing a mask again, regardless of vaccination status.
