MKE Duplex Fire Sends Ten People to Hospital

A two-alarm fire in Milwaukee sends ten people to the hospital.  Authorities say most suffered minor injuries.  Fire broke out around 11:00 last night at a duplex at 35th and Auer.  Fire crews determined there were no working smoke detectors in the house and the cause remains under investigation.

CWD Confirmed in Vilas Co.

The first positive test for chronic wasting disease is confirmed in Vilas County.  The Department of Natural Resources today says the county will now have to abide by a three-year baiting and feeding ban in accordance to state law.  To help contain the spread of the disease the DNR encourages hunters to have newly harvested deer tested for CWD.

WI Gas Prices Below National Average

The average price for regular gas in Wisconsin is 31-cents-a-gallon lower than the national average.  Heading into the weekend Triple-A says the cost of a gallon of regular gas across the Badger State is three-dollars-and today.  The national average is three-31.  Drivers are paying three-13 in St. Croix County, three-oh-four in La Crosse and three-oh-one in Milwaukee with most of the rest of the state under three-dollars a gallon.

Tornado Confirmed in EC Co.

The National Weather Service-Twin Cities confirmed that a tornado occurred in rural eastern Eau Claire County during the severe storms from Wednesday, December 15. This tornado is currently rated an EF-0 and was found due to damage to several buildings and trees. No injuries or deaths are known from this event.

Her has been a small business-owner, an executive for nonprofit organizations, and currently serves as the CEO at the Hmong Institute, which focuses on providing education, training, and outreach to improve health care and educational achievement for communities of color around Wisconsin. His statewide experience also includes serving as a member of Governor Tony Evers’ Early Childhood Advisory Council and Racial Equity Working Group on Homelessness. Flags Lowered to Honor MKE Fire Chief

All flags in Wisconsin are at half-staff today in honor of the Milwaukee Fire Department battalion chief who recently passed away.  Chief Sean Slowey died of brain cancer last Saturday at 68-years-old.  Governor Tony Evers says all flags in Wisconsin will be at half-staff until sunset.  Slowey’s funeral is at noon at the Wisconsin Center.

Badgers Head to Bump, Set, Spike for National Title

Wisconsin will play for the NCAA women’s volleyball championship this weekend.  The fourth-seeded Badgers beat top seed Louisville in five sets Thursday night to punch their ticket to the championship match.  Meanwhile, tenth-seeded Nebraska beat third-seeded Pittsburgh Thursday to move on.  The Badgers and Huskers will play for the national title Saturday.

December Tornadoes Confirmed, Cleanup Continues, Crews Work to Restore Power

It was tornadoes that caused much of the damage in Stanley and Neillsville. The National Weather Service yesterday confirmed two tornadoes in western Wisconsin as part of yesterday’s windstorm. Forecasters say the Neillsville tornado was an EF-2, with tops winds around 120 miles-per-hour. There is plenty of damage in both communities, but there are no reports of any serious injuries. Highway Reopens After Chain Reaction Crash

Highway 141 in Marinette County is back open after Wednesday’s chain-reaction-crash tipped a train on its side. The sheriff’s office reopened the road yesterday. One person died and several others were hurt in Wednesday’s crash. Deputies are blaming the fog for a series of crashes that pushed at least one vehicle into a moving train. That caused the train to derail, and closed the highway for about 24 hours.
