UWEC Extends Mask Mandate, DHS Lags on Vaccine Data

Students and faculty members at UW-Eau Claire are going to have to mask-up for a little while longer. The school yesterday said it’s extending its mask mandate until the end of the year. Chancellor James Schmidt says about 94 percent of university workers and about 83 percent of students are vaccinated. He says positivity rates are under one percent on campus. Reports Suggests “Refocus” for Madison

A new report says Madison Police were unprepared for the anger and violence of last summer’s protests. The Quattrone Report says Madison’s usual strategy of allowing protesters room to protest failed last May because the groups involved in those protests were far angrier, and far more violent than in years past. Move Over Thanksgiving Thursday…It’s a Turkey Sundae!

A craft turkey ice cream is apparently a big hit in San Francisco.  The lines are long at the Salt & Straw shops.  Fans of the Portland-based ice cream maker are placing orders for the “Caramelized Turkey and Cranberry Sauce,” which features turkey bacon that’s churned into a buttery brittle with thyme and pepper.  The limited Thanksgiving flavors also include Parker House Rolls with Salted Buttercream, Sweet Potato Pie with Double Baked Almond Sreusel, and Pumpkin and Gingersnap Pie.

Jury Deliberations Continue in Kenosha

Jury deliberations continue in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial in Kenosha County.  This morning the jury was reduced from the 18 who heard the case to the 12 who are deliberating.  Early in the deliberations jurors did request some information regarding the judge’s instructions to them.  Rittenhouse is charged with killing two men and wounding another during civil unrest in Kenosha last year. Daily Covid-19 Cases Creep Up

The state continues to see COVID-19 cases rise.  The Department of Health reported just under four-thousand new cases yesterday which was the most since mid-December of last year.  The rolling 7-day average is over 29-hundred cases a day.  There were 22 COVID deaths reported yesterday, raising the death toll in the state since the beginning of pandemic to eight-thousand-779. WI State Troopers Mourn Loss

The community of Wisconsin state troopers are mourning the death of one of their own.  The Wisconsin Troopers Association says today that Trooper Daniel Stainbrook died yesterday after a battle with COVID-19.  Stainbrook was hospitalized on October 27th in Wisconsin Rapids.  He was placed in a coma and put on a respirator but never recovered.  Last year Stainbrook was one of three troopers recognized for saving the lives of two women in a car crash.

Packers Pack in the Sales

For the first time in ten years and for only the sixth time in team history the Green Bay Packers are selling stock in the team.  In the first three hours of the offering today more than 33-thousand-shares totaling over ten-million-dollars were sold.  Money raised from the sale will be used to upgrade Lambeau Field.  The team has made 300-thousand-shares available at 300-dollars each.

Jury Deliberations Underway

An attorney is weighing in on the Wisconsin trial involving Kyle Rittenhouse.  Scott Robinson says the jury has been handed a very complicated case. Rittenhouse is accused of killing two men and injuring another in a shooting related to protests in Kenosha last year.  The 18-year-old has claimed self defense.  Jurors have begun deliberations. Local attorney Scott Robinson says there’s a fine line when it comes to self-defense.

The jury in Kyle Rittenhouse’s trial will get to work today. Both the prosecution and Rittenhouse’s lawyers ended their closing arguments yesterday, the jury will begin deliberations at nine a.m. this morning. Rittenhouse is facing a possible life sentence for killing two men and wounding a third during Kenosha’s night of violence in August of last year. The jury can also consider less severe charges. Kleefisch Sues WEC, Asks Court To Enforce Election Laws

Add a lawsuit from the Republican frontrunner for governor to the investigations into last year’s vote here in Wisconsin. Candidate and former lieutenant governor Rebecca Kleefisch yesterday asked the Wisconsin Supreme Court to remind the Wisconsin Elections Commission about its duty to follow the state’s election laws.
