Milwaukee’s violent 2022 is not showing any sign of slowing down. Police say two people were killed yesterday, including a 17-year-old girl in what they’re calling a road rage shooting. Two other people were shot on Saturday. Milwaukee’s homicide total is now over 60 for the year, that’s nearly 25 more than at this point last year.

She will be running to replace Senator Janet Bewley, who is not running again this fall. Westlund ran for Congress in the northwestern corner of the state back in 2014, she has worked for U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin ever since.

The idea is to give students a chance to connect humanities with health care. The new 15-hour certificate will launch next fall. A 150 thousand-dollar grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities is paying for the new initiative.

The folks at J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue in Menasha say they are caring for Francis, who is a Malaysian Giant River Turtle, after her owner got too sick to continue to keep her. Giant River Turtles are rare, and rescuers say she needs some special care. J&R is also caring for two alligator snapping turtles from the same man. They hope to have those turtles available

A man was discovered dead in the Rock River in Rockford, with an autopsy deeming the death suspicious because of injuries found on the body. The Altoona Police Chief says an investigation has led them to a home in Altoona, which has produced a large amount of evidence. Police aren’t saying if the location is that of the victims or a suspect at this time.

Friday’s action reverses the court’s previous decision after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Governor Tony Evers’ proposal. On a 4-3 vote the State Supreme Court found legislative maps to be “race neutral” because GOP lawmakers didn’t consider race in drawing them. The maps set political boundaries for the next ten years.

They include a bill that would ban government agencies from establishing any sort of COVID-19 vaccination requirement. Evers also vetoed a series of bills that would add work and job search requirements for people filing for unemployment benefits. One of those bills would block people who turn down a job offer or more hours at a current job from collecting benefits.
