Probation, Not Jail Time for Shooting Incident

 A Milwaukee man who lied to police about the gun used in the accidental shooting of his five-year-old son will serve probation, not jail time in the case.  A judge yesterday sentenced Joseph Salinas to three years of probation for the shooting in August of 2018.  The boy survived. Man Charged in Ongoing Child Pornography Investigation

On Friday, April 15, 2022 the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the WI Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) arrested Derek Salewski, 23 of Barron. Salewski was part of a several month investigation in a Possession of Child Porn and Distribution case. He was charged today in Barron County Circuit Court and is currently being held at the Barron County Jail on a $1000 cash bond.

It’s A “No”

Former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson won’t run for governor again this year.  The 80-year-old Republican made that announcement today, saying he made the decision after considering his family.  He served as governor from 1987 to 2001.  There are currently three Republicans set to try to unseat Governor Tony Evers  this year. That list includes former Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, Wisconsin State Representative Timothy Ramthun, and former Marine Kevin Nicholson.

Woman Pleads Guilty in Baby Theresa Case

The Milwaukee woman charged in connection with the 2009 death of an infant in southeast Wisconsin is pleading guilty.  Karin Luttinen was charged last month with concealing the death of a child and pleaded guilty to that charge this morning.  Luttinen’s charged in the Baby Theresa case, where a child was found dead in a trash bag in the Village of Theresa 13 years ago this month.  She’ll be sentenced in August.

Police Looking For Man, Woman Charged In Infant’s Death

Madison police are looking for a man and woman charged in connection with the death of an infant.  Police say Arkeem Ashley and Estefania Martinez are facing charges in their child’s death from back in 2020.  Police say the child died by homicide by blunt injuries to the head.  Anyone with information is asked to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers.

On April 12, 2022, the Rockford Police Department located a body in the Rock River in Rockford, Illinois. On April 14, 2022, the Altoona Police Department was contacted by the Rockford Police Department after the body was identified as Dennis R. Schattie, a 79 year old male of Altoona, WI. The death was deemed suspicious by Winnebago, Illinois County Coroner, because of injuries sustained to the body. UW Madison Robberies Prompt Patrols

University of Wisconsin-Madison police are stepping up patrols this week after two armed robberies near campus.  Police say both robberies happened last Friday.  One was at the McDonald’s on Regent Street and the other was at the East Campus Mall Walgreen’s.  Police say no one was hurt in either robbery and no arrests have been made.
