The Eau Claire County Humane Association needs a million-dollars to build a new shelter. The Humane Association has been raising money since the start of last year to replace their 25-year-old building. They’ve raised about five-and-a-half million of their six-and-a-half million-dollar goal. The Association’s Shelley Janke says there’s a special matching fund for new donors. She hopes to raise the money soon, and get the new shelter built before 2024.

The city’s police chief yesterday said 44-year-old Donald Albee, six-year-old Conner Albee and five-year-old Emily Albee all died in that fire last Thursday. Donald Albee’s girlfriend, the woman who owned the home, escaped with just minor injuries. An autopsy says it appears the children died from smoke inhalation. No one is saying what caused the fire.
