More people are returning to work in Wisconsin. The latest unemployment report shows the labor force participation rate in the state increased last month. Unemployment held steady. Wisconsin’s jobless rate for April remained at two-point-eight percent. Private sector employers in Wisconsin added 31 hundred jobs last month.

Trial Continues in UW Arboretum Murders

The daughter of the couple found murdered at the UW Arboretum back in 2020 says her boyfriend hated her parents because they tried to get him to live by some basic rules. Beth Potter and Robin Carre’s daughter told the jury yesterday that Khari Sanford felt ‘like a slave’ because her parents asked him to go to school and abide by a curfew while living with them. Prosecutors say Sanford killed the two because he hated them and their rules.

Charges Filed in Accidental Shooting

Investigators in Blue Mounds say a weekend shooting death was an accident. Authorities have identified the victim of the shooting as 19-year-old Marshall Iverson of Mount Horeb, they say another young man, 20-year-old Isaiah Miller, accidentally fired a round from an AR-15 and killed Iverson. Dane County’s sheriff says the shooting could have been avoided with some training or basic knowledge of firearms. Miller is booked into the Dane County jail on homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon

CWD Confirmed at Walworth Co. Deer Farm

There’s another case of chronic wasting disease at a deer farm in Wisconsin. This time in Walworth County. The state’s Department of Natural Resources yesterday said the farm and its deer are under quarantine after a test came back positive. CWD is deadly to deer and has been found on several deer farms across the state over the past couple of years.

Case Against EC D.A. Could Head to High Court

Eau Claire County’s former D.A. could lose his law license for a few months because of his behavior on the job. The Office of Lawyer Regulation is asking the Wisconsin Supreme Court to suspend Gary King’s license for at least nine months. The request comes after a report into King’s behavior while working as D.A. A number of staffers said he sexually harassed a woman in his office, and often appeared drunk on the job. Judge Declares Mistrial

A judge has ended a child sexual abuse case in Eau Claire without a verdict. The judge yesterday declared a mistrial in David Balistreri’s trial. He’s accused of touching an 11-year-old girl while she slept. The jury said it could not agree on a verdict. Prosecutors have not yet said whether they will try the case again.

Suspects Add Up in MKE

The suspects in Milwaukee’s mass shooting continue to add-up. Prosecutors yesterday filed charges against three men for their roles in last Friday’s shooting that injured 16 people. The new charges include conspiracy to commit aggravated battery, and seven counts of first-degree reckless injury. Two of the men, 24-year-old Marquise Jackson and 23-year-old Christopher Murry had open warrants on the night of the shooting. Police say Jackson brought a rifle to Water Street last Friday.
