 Madison police are warning of a phone scam involving a person claiming to be law enforcement.  Police say the scammer recently called someone, claimed to be a federal agent, and told the victim to buy them thousands of dollars worth of gift cards.  Police say the victim sent the scammer several gift cards over text message.  Police say a similar scam has also been reported with a person claiming to be a Madison police officer.

It’s 40 years for Joseph Green. A judge yesterday sentenced Green to four decades in a state mental health facility for the Christmas Eve 2019 shooting death of his sister. Police say Green shot her 15 times. He pleaded guilty to second degree intentional homicide in early February.

It’s false imprisonment charges for the superintendent of one Oconto County school for strip searching students. The D.A.’s Office filed the charges yesterday against Superintendent Kelly Casper. She’s accused of forcing five young women to strip down to their underwear in an attempt to find vaping cartridges. Originally, prosecutors refused to file charges because they said Casper didn’t make the teens get completely naked. Prosecutors in Buffalo County are pushing ahead with a voter fraud case against a local felon. The D.A.’s Office says 40-year-old Damien Murphy voted in the November 2020 election in Dover. Felons are not allowed to vote in the state of Wisconsin. Voter fraud charges carry a maximum penalty of just over three years in prison. No one is saying who Murphy voted for in the 2020 election.

Most kids in the area, including Chippewa Falls schools, Boyceville, and Menomonie will no longer need to mask-up on the school bus. The city’s school district yesterday said it is dropping its mask requirement for buses and school vans. The CDC says school districts no longer need to require kids to wear masks on district-owned buses. Federal rules require all public transportation options, like city buses, to continue to require masks for riders.

The months-long investigation into Wisconsin’s 2020 election will close one chapter today. Former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Mike Gableman is due to present his report to lawmakers at a statehouse hearing later this morning. Gableman has been looking into the 2020 vote, with a focus on the donations from the Mark Zuckerberg-funded Center for Tech and Civic Life, and what that money did to election operations in Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Racine, and Kenosha. Add this to the cost of inflation. The federal government is sending Wisconsin 17 million-dollars in additional school lunch money to help districts find hard-to-get, or more expensive food. The state’s Department of Public Instruction announced the extra funding yesterday. DPI says the money will help with product availability difficulties ‘created by national supply chain challenges.’

Kids across the state of Wisconsin will bring home a little something extra next month. The Attorney General’s Office says it will be distributing over 900 thousand fingerprint ID kits to school kids. The idea is for parents to keep their child’s fingerprints and some personal information on-hand just in case the kids go missing.
