State Prepares For Newest COVID-19 Booster Shots

State health officials say they’re hopeful the newest COVID-19 booster shots will improve Wisconsin’s vaccination numbers.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM DHS. Almost 62 percent of Wisconsin residents have received the vaccine series but only 35 percent have received a booster shot.  The newest shots are designed to be effective against the latest omicron variants of the virus.  The latest shot will become available soon across Wisconsin.

UW Nurses Prepare For Strike

University of Wisconsin Health nurses are calling for better staffing, quality care and a union.  The nurses voted last month to go on strike for three days next week.  Yesterday, at a news conference to highlight their demands, nurse leaders said they’re suffering burnout from the pandemic and high turnover.  Wisconsin’s Attorney General has said UW Health can recognize the nurses’ union.  UW nurses say they’ve been threatened with loss of their jobs for their union activities.

Dragonflies Swarm WI Lake Front On Journey to Mexico

Swarms of dragonflies are arriving in what are called unprecedented numbers along the lake front this year.  Officials with the Audubon Nature Center think a warmer climate may have something to do with the dragonfly swarms, which are gathering around Lake Michigan in preparation for their migration south for the winter.  The invasion will be a brief one as the dragonflies begin their journey south and on to Mexico in the coming weeks.

Driver Rescued From La Crosse Levee

One person is safe after getting their car stuck on a levee in La Crosse.  First responders were called to Riverside Park shortly before 5:30 p.m. yesterday where they found a car stuck on the edge of the levee, with one person inside.  Other than where the car crashed through barriers, there appears to be no other apparent damage.

Students Unite For Annual Event

Over a thousand UW-Eau Claire students came out for the annual “Run the Hill” event yesterday.  At the sound of starter pistol, students walk or run the hill that connects the lower campus to the upper campus.  All participants received a t-shirt, but organizers say the event is more about camaraderie and spending time outdoors just before the new school year starts.

Ship Cruises Into La Crosse

A brand new cruise ship has visited La Crosse for the first time.  The Viking Mississippi is a luxury liner measuring 450 feet long.  It can hold nearly 400 passengers.  It left Saint Paul, Minnesota, on September 3rd and docked at Riverside Park yesterday.  The 15-day cruise is next headed to Saint Louis, Missouri, with a final destination in New Orleans.

Phoenix Park Location For Labor Day Union Event

One western Wisconsin park took advantage of Labor Day to recognize the city’s history with unions.  The Greater West Central Area Labor Council hosted a celebration in Phoenix Park in Eau Claire yesterday.  Eau Claire is a union town and council president Nick Webber said they are proud of that heritage and want it to continue.

President Biden Met With Hecklers During Stop in Milwaukee

President Biden is dealing with hecklers as he makes an appearance in Wisconsin.  Biden was speaking in Milwaukee at a Labor Day celebration when the person shouted at him.  The heckler was removed quickly by security, but Biden told them to let him go.  Meantime, Biden said MAGA Republicans are trying to set the country back with hateful ideologies and as a nation, we must overcome that.  Biden went on to say he wouldn’t be where he is today without

Salmon Recall Makes Splash in WI

A brand of smoked salmon recently sold in Wisconsin is being recalled.  The Food and Drug Administration says nearly 100, four ounce packages of St. James Smokehouse brand Scotch Reserve Scottish Smoked Salmon distributed between this February and June could be contaminated with Listeria.  If you purchased the product you can throw it away or take it back to the store for a refund.
