A Bloomer man is in custody following an armed home invasion that prompted a multi-agency search Friday night and Saturday.
Bloomer Police say a resident reported a burglary in progress around 9:30 Friday night, telling authorities multiple rounds had been fired and a man was breaking into the home. The residents were able to escape before the suspect entered.
Investigators say security video showed a man entering through broken glass in the front door while carrying a scoped rifle. Police later determined no shots had been fired into the home.
Authorities described the incident as targeted and isolated, saying the suspect was known to the victims and there was no danger to the general public.
Investigators located the suspect Saturday at a residence in Washington Township in Rusk County. Officers from Bloomer and deputies from Chippewa and Rusk counties responded, along with the Barron-Rusk ERT team.
Police say the suspect eventually came out of the residence and surrendered peacefully.
The man is being held in the Chippewa County Jail on multiple charges. His name and specific charges have not yet been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
