The Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call of a vehicle in Mead Lake near the Dam, in the Township of Mead, at about 3:44 PM, on Thursday April 16, 2026. The caller reported a car was floating in the water by the dam, they didn’t know if anyone was inside, and the windshield wipers were going.
After a few minutes, the caller then informed the dispatch center that the vehicle was occupied, and someone was trying to break the window to get out. A local resident saw what happened, got into a kayak with some life jackets, and went to the vehicle to help the driver out of the vehicle. The driver got out of the vehicle and was helped to the shore of the lake.
When officers arrived on scene, the driver was interviewed and transported to Marshfield Medical Center. The vehicle floated for a period of time, slowly sank below the surface, and stopped about 100 feet straight out from the dam.
The Marathon County Dive Team was called to assist the Clark County Sheriff’s Office with the incident. It was determined the driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and no divers were dispatched into the water. The vehicle was removed from the water Friday April 17th, 2026.
The Greenwood Area Fire and Ambulance Service responded to the scene with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Marathon County Dive Team. The crash remains under investigation by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
