U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Shift Species to Extinct

Eight indigenous species to Hawaii are no longer endangered–they’re now considered extinct.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said in a news release today that more than 20 species have been delisted as endangered due to extinction. That includes eight birds found in Hawaii, most of which haven’t been seen in decades. The FWS says these species will finally be delisted a month from now.
