Interstate Re-Routed After Hazard Materials Fire

Interstate Re-Routed After Hazard Materials Fire

A FedEx double-bottom CMV hauling corrosive hazardous materials started on fire while traveling westbound on I94 at mile marker 12. The fire likely started as a brake fire. Only the first trailer
suffered damage, the driver was able to disconnect the power unit from the trailer.

Due to the hazardous materials on board both westbound and eastbound lanes were closed initially and St. Croix County notified residents within a half-mile of the incident. Residents were advised via RAVE, IPAWS, Facebook, and Twitter of the possible need to evacuate, no mandatory evacuation was initiated. Eastbound lanes were reopened at approximately 7:32 AM. Westbound lanes remain closed for the cleanup with a reroute in place. The closure will continue for approximately 1-2 hours. The reroute for westbound traffic is north on Hwy T and west on Hwy 12.
