Reports Of Erratic Driver Lead to Arrest

Reports of an erratic driver lead to an arrest and discovery of a stolen vehicle.

It was on June 20, 2022, at approximately 11:55a.m., a Lake Hallie Police Officer, received a call about white Chrysler 300 driving erratically on westbound on Hwy 29. The officer learned that the vehicle had just been stolen from Clark County. The Lake Hallie Officer attempted to stop the Chrysler with his emergency lights and sirens, but the vehicle failed to stop and increased its’ speed. The vehicle traveled north on Hwy 53 into Chippewa Falls; exited eastbound onto County Highway X where Chippewa Falls PD officers were able to successfully deploy spike strips.

The vehicle stopped on Wagner Street and County Highway X where the driver, identified as Ryan

Szydel (27 yoa from Wausau), fled on foot. At approximately 1:15p.m., after a theft of a bicycle, in the 300 block of Stanley Ave, Chippewa Falls PD Officers arrested Szydel. Officers learned that Szydel had an active Department of Correction warrant for Probation Violation. A vehicle search revealed a suspected methamphetamine glass smoking device. Szydel was transported to the Chippewa County Jail for the active probation violation.

The Lake Hallie Police Department charged Szydel with Knowingly fleeing an officer and Possession of Methamphetamine Paraphernalia while the Chippewa Falls Police Department charged Szydel with the theft of the bicycle and Felony Bail Jumping. Motor Vehicles Theft charges are pending with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Lake Hallie Police Department was assisted by the Chippewa Falls Police Department, and Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office.
