Many Howl About Wolf Hunt Numbers

Wisconsin-appointed DNR board members are stepping over the scientists in Madison who want to see fewer wolves hunted this year.

The Department of Natural Resources’ board on Wednesday voted to set this year’s hunting limit at 300 wolves. DNR staffers had originally suggested a cap of 130 wolves. The split shows a growing divide at the agency.

Many at DNR sided with activists who want the state’s wolf hunt to be as small as possible. Some DNR board members say the activists don’t want a wolf hunt at all. Hunters will be able to take to the fields starting November 6th.
