Deer District Linked to COVID-19 Cases, More WI Employers Require Shots

State health officials say there have been nearly 500 COVID-19 cases  linked to the Milwaukee Bucks championship celebration in the Deer District. 

The Department of Health Services says most people infected had either attended the Bucks game or the celebration in the Deer District.  However officials stopped short of saying where they caught the virus. 

UW Health is requiring providers and staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19.  

UW Health Chief Quality Officer Doctor Jeffrey Pothof said today vaccines are the most powerful tool we have in the effort to end the pandemic.  He says the vaccines are safe and effective and reduce the possibility of serious illness.  Pothof also says getting vaccinated sends a good message to the community.

Advocate Aurora Health is the most recent health care provider to require employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19. 

Advocate Aurora says today employees have until October 15th to be fully vaccinated.  It says it is experiencing positive cases not seen since the beginning of the year.  Aurora employs about 75-thousand people in Wisconsin and Illinois.
