Eau Claire Stabbing Case Turns to Homicide Investigation

We have an update on the stabbing incident that took place in Eau Claire in the early hours of Thanksgiving morning.

On December 3rd, the Eau Claire Police Department was informed the victim in the November 26th stabbing incident had died. 

A forensic autopsy was conducted at the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office in Rochester, MN. An Eau Claire Police Detective was present at the autopsy The forensic pathologist identified preliminary results which indicated the cause of death was a stab wound to chest and the manner of death is homicide. 

The Eau Claire County District Attorney’s Office has been informed of the preliminary autopsy results and will determine charges against Kelly B. Weiberg once the reports are reviewed. This is an ongoing investigation and Weiberg is still being held in the Eau Claire County Jail. 

The victim has been identified as 37 year old Travis Lee Smith of Laurel, Indiana.
