Local Leaders Tackle Public Health Issues and Ordinance

The Eau Claire Chamber of Commerce is on the record as being against the city and county’s new public health ordinance.

Chamber President Dave Minor yesterday said the new rules, which could make it easier for the City-County Health Department to close local businesses, is too broad and too vague. Minor wants it pulled until there is more agreement. City and county leaders are planning a public meeting tomorrow night. Minor says there needs to be more community buy-in before Eau Claire makes such a drastic change.

Meanwhile, Eau Claire’s City-County Health Department is not issuing signs that say local businesses are closed because of the coronavirus. Health Director Lieske Giese said someone else is handing them out or posting them in local businesses.

The health department took to Facebook yesterday to call the signs “spam.” The signs read that a business has been closed because there is an isolation or quarantine order in effect. Giese says that’s not the way they do things at the health department.
