PROPOSAL COULD CREATE STATE “ABLE” PROGRAM

A plan at the statehouse in Madison would give people with disabilities and their families a new way to save money.

State Rep. Lisa Subeck and state Senator André Jacque yesterday introduced a proposal to create a state-based ABLE program. ABLE programs are savings accounts that come with tax advantages that help families of people with disabilities save for future expenses such as education, housing, and transportation. Wisconsin has state-based tax advantages for people who enroll in ABLE programs, but the state does not have an ABLE program of its own.
