They’ve cleaned-up the Dollar General in Cadott enough to reopen the store. Local firefighters closed the store over the weekend because they said there were too many boxes in the aisles, and it was a fire hazard. Firefighters yesterday said the store can now reopen.

Concerns Return Over Bird Flu

There are worries about the return of the bird flu in the Midwest. The USDA is monitoring after a flock of turkeys in Meeker County, Minnesota tested positive for the bird flu this week. Meeker County is west of the Twin Cities. Wisconsin hasn’t seen a bird flu case since May. Wisconsin ordered nearly three million birds destroyed because of the bird flu outbreak this spring.

State Election’s Commission Seeks New Office

Wisconsin’s election managers want a million-and-a-half dollars to deal with an uptick in election complaints. The state’s Elections Commission yesterday asked lawmakers for the money to create an Office of Inspector General. Commission administrator Meagan Wolfe says they need both the money and the I-G’s office because they had 50 complaints about the 2020 election. State Rep. Waukesha Leaders Closer to Memorial Design

Leaders in Waukesha are getting closer to picking a Christmas Parade Memorial design. The Waukesha Parade Memorial Commission met last night to review three designs for the memorial. They also asked members of the public. The Commission says it wants to get the memorial right.  Cedar Wedge Farm in Bonduel, Wis., is issuing a voluntary recall of bacon produced for individuals and sold from its retail store. The recall includes the following: Smoked bacon, vacuum sealed in approximately 1-lb. packages. Ruling Allows For Ballot Help

Wisconsin voters with disabilities will be allowed to have help sending in their ballots.  Today a federal judge ruled the Wisconsin Elections Commission must establish the Voting Rights Act, which will require the state to give help to voters with disabilities.  Anyone can help a person with disabilities vote, as long as they’re not their employer or a part of the voters’ union.

Barnes Security Tab In Campaign Conversation

The size and cost of Mandela Barnes’ state-supported security team is now a campaign issue. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported yesterday that Barnes has racked-up over 600 thousand-dollars in security costs during his first three years in office. That is ten times more than the state’s last Lieutenant Governor.  Barnes is Lt. Governor, but he is also running for US Senate. Republicans yesterday said the whopping number shows how quick Barnes is to spend other people’s money.

No Threat To Community After Standoff in Menomonie

We now have more information about an incident in Menomonie. On August 30, 2022, the Menomonie Police Department with the assistance of the Eau Claire Regional SWAT Team attempted to serve a search warrant at the residence of Michael Polzin, 18025 th St. W. #6. Polzin also had an active arrest warrant. Following a lengthy standoff, Polzin was apprehended without further incident. There is no threat to the community.
