Washington Co. Confirms Bird Flu Cases

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has identified a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a backyard flock in Washington County. This is Wisconsin’s first confirmed case of HPAI in a domestic flock since May. This year, 23 flocks in 15 counties have been confirmed with HPAI. Search Continues For Suspect In Deadly Shooting

There are now charges against the man accused of killing an elderly Milwaukee woman in her home and shooting three others last week. Milwaukee prosecutors filed formal charges yesterday against Leslie Bost. Police say he shot his neighbor and her friends and family before taking off. Police are asking anyone who knows where he is to come forward.

Sparta Man Facing Life Sentence

 It’s a guilty verdict in Monroe County’s axe murder. A jury yesterday found 38-year-old Thomas Aspseter of Sparta guilty of killing his grandfather with an axe last June. Aspseter told the jury he attacked his grandfather because his grandfather punched him in the face. Prosecutors say he killed him and wounded two others in a blind rage. Aspseter is looking at a mandatory life sentence.

Suspect in Lily Peters Murder Waives Right to Hearing

There was no hearing for the 14-year-old accused of killing a Chippewa Falls girl. The teen yesterday waived his right to a hearing in Lily Peter’s rape and murder. He’s facing adult charges, but his lawyers are pushing to move the case to juvenile court. The teen has not been identified in court, but a number of reports say he is Peters’ cousin.

Formal Voting Fraud Charges Filed Against Racine Co. Man

State prosecutors are bringing voter fraud charges against the Racine County man who says he committed voter fraud to prove a point. The state’s Department of Justice yesterday filed formal charges against Harry Wait. Wait admitted to asking for Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Racine Mayor Corey Mason’s ballot before the August primary. One of the Chippewa Valley’s state lawmakers is caught-up in another 2020 election story. State Senator Kathy Bernier was on Ginni Thomas’ 2020 election email list. Thomas sent Bernier an email asking her to choose new electors. Bernier says she doesn’t remember the email, saying it was one of thousands she got at the time.

Monkeypox Case Confirmed in St. Croix Co.

There is a confirmed case of the monkeypox in St. Croix County. The county’s health department announced the case yesterday. It is their first. No one is saying just who caught the pox, or where. WI Hospitalizations See Dip

Wisconsin is seeing fewer people in the hospital with the coronavirus that a week ago. The state’s Hospital Association yesterday said 467 people are in the hospital with the virus, including 81 in the ICU. Questions Loading About Broadband Money

A new state audit says there are questions about where the state’s broadband money was actually spent. The Legislative Audit Bureau released its report yesterday. Auditors say the state’s Public Service Commission didn’t track just how much internet companies actually spent to expand broadband service across the state. Auditors also say there was no documentation to prove the work was actually done.
