A fire remains under investigation in Marshfield. On June 14th 2023, Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched for flames coming from a trailer home at N Peach Avenue. A Minneapolis man is looking at a 15 hundred dollar fine after he drunkenly called 911 and threatened to kill the family of the teenager who killed Lily Peters. Chippewa Falls Police say Herbert Badalich from St. Paul called one week after Peters’ death last year, and made the threats. He said he was frustrated and mad about the case. Badalich later said he was drunk when he made the call, and wasn’t a threat to anyone. A Chippewa County

Two people are dead after a small plane went down in Watertown. It happened yesterday morning at Brandt-Quirk Park, which is near Watertown’s small airport. No one is saying what brought the plane down, though the FAA is investigating. The NTSB yesterday said the plane was a Mooney M20R, which can seat four people. Investigators say just two people were on board, both of them died.

The third day of searching for that missing Sauk County teenager at Devil’s Lake State Park once again came-up empty. The Sauk County Sheriff’ Office has been looking for 13-year-old James Yoblonski since he left his house late on Sunday. Dozens of deputies and others scoured the woods again yesterday. The days of moving your car one-spot-down in downtown Eau Claire are coming to an end. The city council on Tuesday voted to end re-parking. That’s when someone moves their car over one space to continue taking advantage of downtown’s two hours of free parking. The new rules will require people to move their car at least one block over. The hope is to free-up parking downtown, and allow more people to shop at downtown businesses.  

The Republican-backed plan to share more state money with local governments in Wisconsin needed Democratic help to get through the Wisconsin Senate last night. Lawmakers, in both the Senate and Assembly, approved the shared revenue package last night with several lawmakers flipping their vote. Seven Senate Republicans voted against the plan, while six Senate Democrats voted ‘Yes.’ The hold-out Republicans didn’t like the lack of a referendum vote for Milwaukee’s sales tax increases. Wisconsin’s new, 80-plus billion-dollar budget may be in trouble because of 32 million-dollars for diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University of Wisconsin. Governor Tony Evers yesterday said he may not sign the budget if Republican lawmakers push ahead with their plan to strip 32 million from the UW System. Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos wants the university to spend the 32 million on something else, the governor said that’s ‘ridiculous.’ The Republican-controlled legislature is working to finish the new state

Add this to the list of costs of Milwaukee’s reckless driving problem. The city yesterday said it is spending about two-and-a-half million-dollars a-year to replace traffic lights. Milwaukee’s city engineer says many of those traffic lights are knocked-down or taken-out by reckless drivers. City leaders say Milwaukee cannot afford to continue to pay that much, each year. DPW numbers show that since 2017, between 14 hundred and 16 hundred traffic lights have been knocked-down in the city each year.

There’s a tiny problem with the logo for Milwaukee’s Republican National Convention. Photo credit: Milwaukee Republican National Convention Organizers debuted the logo this week, but forgot to add all of Door County. The logo essentially cuts-off at Sturgeon Bay. The folks at Destination Door County are taking the snub in stride, saying they’ve seen worse. The RNC isn’t saying who forgot about Wisconsin’s ‘thumb.’ Milwaukee will host the Republican National Convention in July of next year.

The downtown Eau Claire bear is getting internet famous. The city’s police department shared video of the bear wandering through downtown yesterday morning. The small black bear crossed the street, and avoided traffic. Eau Claire Police say the bear was first spotted along Water Street, and then made its way to Phoenix Park before leaving the city limits.
