Madison Scores Soccer Team

Madison is getting a top-tier women’s soccer team. The ownership team of Forward Madison FC yesterday said it has landed the rights to a new team in the USL Super League. The league is hoping to launch next year, and Madison must make improvements to Breese Stevens Field in order to get the team. Forward Madison’s Conor Caloia and Vern Stenman said in a statement that it’s always been their goal to bring a professional women’s soccer team to Madison.

Charges Recommended in Deadly Crash

There is a person in custody for last Friday’s deadly wreck in Eau Claire. Officers say Kenneth Van Meter was drunk and speeding when he crashed into a car last Friday night. Eau Claire Police say they are recommending homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle charges in the case. The D.A.’s office has not said just when formal charges could be filed. Body Recovered From Sheboygan River

The search for a man who went under the water in the Sheboygan River is over.  Rescue crews found 25-year-old Lee Lor’s body yesterday.  He went missing in the river on Monday.  The Wisconsin DNR and Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office used sonar to locate his body, then dive teams recovered it.  The sheriff’s office says Lor dove into the river, but almost immediately started calling for help.  The DNR says most rivers and lakes are still very cold, and suggested people avoid

Pay Raise Approved For WI Prosecutors, DA’s

Prosecutors and defense attorneys in Wisconsin are going to get a raise in the new state budget.  The budget-writing Joint Finance Committee yesterday agreed to spend more money on D.A.’s and defense attorneys.  The starting salary in Wisconsin will now be 75 thousand-dollars a-year.  The pay hike comes after years of complaints from D.A.’s and judges that low pay was squeezing lawyers out of prosecution and defense work.  Dodge County lost all of its prosecutors earlier this year because they all got better paying

Sharing Details on Shared Revenue Plan

If you are speeding in Wisconsin, you could get clocked for your next ticket from the sky. The State Patrol is continuing with its aerial enforcement this week. Troopers were in Rock County yesterday. They will be in Kenosha County today, Eau Claire County tomorrow, and Dane County on Friday. The State Patrol says it’s telling people about the flights in the hope that people will slow down on Wisconsin’s interstates.

Eau Claire’s health department is reminding people that this is the last call for free COVID tests. Starting next month, people will have to pay to get at-home testing kits. The health department took to Facebook yesterday to suggest people order their tests now, just in case. The end of the federal coronavirus emergency has brought an end to most free coronavirus care.

Investigation Continues After Deadly Crash

On May 12th, 2023 at 10:47PM multiple agencies responded to the area of East Clairemont Avenue and Fairfax Street for a crash involving two vehicles. A Dodge Charger was stopped at the traffic lights eastbound on Clairemont Ave at Fairfax St. The Charger was struck from behind by a Ford Escape, which was described by witnesses as traveling at a high rate of speed.
