 There’s a warning about wildfires for most of the week for most of the state of Wisconsin. The Department of Natural Resources yesterday issued a warning about high and extremely high dangers for fires. The warning covers everyone except for a small strip of western Wisconsin. The extremely high danger is limited to three counties that border the UP. The rest of the state, DNR says, needs to be careful when around fire, and shouldn’t burn any brush piles until Wisconsin sees a good

Wisconsin is warning about a bad spongy moth summer. The Department of Natural Resources says this looks to be a bad year for the moths that used to be called gypsy moths. The bugs can and will strip trees of their leaves, ultimately killing them. The DNR says oak, birch, crabapple, aspen and willow are the moth’s favorites.

Some pro-life lawmakers in Madison want to clarify what is, and what is not an abortion. State Senator Romaine Quinn and a handful of pro-life state representatives yesterday introduced what they call the Embrace Them Both plans.  The first would clarify Wisconsin’s abortion law, and state that dealing with miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies is not the same as an abortion.  Other plans would expand Wisconsin’s tax credit for children to include unborn children, and would create a funding source for pregnancy centers

Oshkosh could soon add jetways and airport vehicles to its long list of products.  The company yesterday said it is in talks to buy AeroTech, which makes many of the vehicles that support airports across the country.  The deal is not final, but if it becomes final it would be Oshkosh’s second-largest acquisition ever.  Oshkosh CEO John Pfeifer says the two companies will blend well together.

Someone who bought a lotto ticket at a Kwik Trip in Eau Claire is a million dollars richer. The Wisconsin Lottery yesterday said the Kwik Trip on Otter Road in Eau Claire sold a winning Megabucks ticket worth one-point-three million dollars. The ticket was for Saturday’s drawing.  The winner has not come forward, at least not yet.

Unity of Eau Claire is partnering with the Weapons of Brass Destruction Band for a Fundraising Concert to improve the grounds and center at Unity Spiritual Center. In Spring 2014, trombonist Tom Carlson set out to rectify the situation by starting this band with some cream-of- the-crop horn and percussion players. Chronic wasting disease has been detected in deer in Sauk County.  The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection says the case was recently detected in a ten-year-old doe on a deer farm.  The farm is currently under quarantine while the case is being investigated.  Chronic wasting disease is a neurological condition that is fatal in deer, elk, and moose.

A new study says Madison is a top 20 place to raise a family.  WalletHub puts Madison at 17th compared to the 182 largest U.S. cities.  Out of 45 categories Madison’s best is affordability, ranking third.  Milwaukee also makes the rankings but down the list at 149th.  WalletHub says the best place to raise a family is Fremont, California.
