WI Native Wins Silver

Madison native Peter Liu has won a medal at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin.  Liu swam a leg for the silver-medalist U.S. four-by-50-meter relay team.  He also placed sixth overall in the 200-meter breaststroke final.  The closing ceremony for the Special Olympics World Games is today in Berlin.

Titletown Tops Best Cities List

The city with the longest waiting list for football season tickets tops U.S. News and World Report’s Best Places To Live.  Green Bay, Wisconsin, is ranked number one, followed by Huntsville, Alabama, in second and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina in third.  According to the publication’s website, the ratings are based on a variety of factors, including affordability, education, quality of life, job market and desirability.  The report says “Green Bay has the perfect mix of big-city amenities (and) a Midwestern, small-town feel.”

Gas Prices Dip a Bit

Wisconsin drivers are paying a little less for gas as the weekend begins.  Triple-A reports the state average for regular was down one cent Friday, to three-52 a gallon.  The average was three-40 a gallon in Dane and Sauk counties.  The national average was flat at three-58 a gallon Friday.

CVTC Board Approves Budget

The Chippewa Valley Technical College District Board approved the 2023-24 budget as proposed during its meeting on Thursday. This approval comes just a day after the state Assembly indefinitely postponed the vote on Assembly Bill 2, which posed a threat to the technical colleges’ ability to levy property taxes for operating and maintenance expenses. CVTC’s budget calls for total expenditures of $113,626,637, a reduction of 2.59 percent from the 2022-23 budget due mainly to the completion of referendum projects. General fund

Man Facing Charges in Tomah Shooting

 A man is facing charges in connection with a shooting in Tomah earlier this week. Yesterday several charges were filed against 23-year-old Krimzen Perea, including first-degree attempted homicide. Police say early Monday morning, Perea followed a man to the nine-hundred block of East McCoy where he allegedly shot him. The victim then managed to fight Perea for the gun. He was able to get the gun and run to a Super 8 Hotel on Berry Avenue for help. The victim

Authorities Seek Public’s Help in Finding Missing Teen

Eau Claire Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a runaway juvenile. Police say 14-year-old Coiya Olson was last seen on June 11th and last spoke with her family on June 14th. Hot Weather Reminder for Pets

With the mercury rising, Eau Claire Police remind not to leave your pet in a hot car. Police say they receive a call at least once a week during the warm weather months of a dog being left in a hot car. In 2018, the department reports they received over 100 calls of animals being left in hot cars. So far this year, the department has received thirty calls for animals being left in a hot car.
