UW Adds Therapy Dog to Staff

The University of Wisconsin’s newest officer is there to give-out hugs. The UWPD yesterday introduced Charlie, the department’s first-ever therapy dog. Charlie will walk around campus and will be there for anyone ‘in need during a crisis, or traumatic incident’ according to the university. Charlie comes to the school through the Paws & Stripes program. UW Police simply say students should ask before giving Charlie a pet or a hug.

Cheese Capitol Hands Out Dough

Someone who bought a Mega Millions ticket in Plymouth is a million-dollars richer. The Wisconsin Lottery yesterday said the Pick ‘n Save on Eastern Avenue sold a million-dollar winning ticket on Tuesday. The ticket matched five of the six numbers drawn. This is the second time the Pick n’ Save in Plymouth has sold a million-dollar winner this year. The same store sold a million-dollar scratch-off ticket back in March.

Our local Northern Wisconsin State Fair is underway and with the local midway open, you can plan your fair future as the Wisconsin State Fair is out with new food lists as well.  Over 100 new foods and drinks will debut at the Wisconsin State Fair this year.  Of the more interesting, the bug brownie on a stick.  It’s a brownie with chocolate frosting, candy corn, ants, crickets, worms, and a scorpion.  A full list of new foods can be found online

Gunshots Reported in Menomonie, Two Suspects in Custody

At 10:17 p.m. on July 11, 2023, the Menomonie Police Department received a report that a citizen heard approximately six gunshots in the area of 541 S Broadway. Upon performing a search of the area, officers located empty shell casings in the alleyway behind 541 S Broadway. Bullet holes were located in two different unoccupied vehicles. Multiple Arrests Made After Deadly Crash

On Tuesday July 11, 2023, at approximately 6:57 p.m. the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls reporting a vehicle accident with injuries on Harper Drive in the Town Of Rib Lake, Taylor County. It was also reported that two vehicles were seen racing side by side just prior to the accident. Taylor County Sheriff’s deputies along with fire and emergency medical services were dispatched. Milwaukee Violence Continues

 It was a violent Tuesday in Milwaukee. Police in the city say eight people were shot in about five hours yesterday. The first shooting was reported just before 5:30 yesterday afternoon, and the last was reported just after 10:15 at night. That last shooting sent three young men to the hospital. One of the eight victims, a 19-year-old, died. Milwaukee Police are not saying anything about a motive or suspects in that case.

Sex Offender Sentenced

It’s six years in prison and a lifetime on the sex offender registry for a Barron County man. A judge yesterday sentenced Jacob Nordeng for both sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl, and for sexually assaulting a drunk woman who fell asleep at his house. Nordeng originally told police the woman was fine, but his friends say she couldn’t stand-up or speak at the time. WI Wildfire Injures Firefighters, Burns Over 800 Acres

The wildfire in Waushara County is bigger and more destructive than first thought. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources yesterday said the fire burned 830 acres of land near Coloma. The first estimates were that the fire burned just 400 acres. We also got word yesterday that eight firefighters were hurt in the fire.
