All decorations, containers, shepherd hooks, solar lights and other adornments at Hillside, Gate of Heaven, and Immanuel Lutheran Cemeteries in Marshfield must be removed by Sunday, October 1, 2023, for the annual fall clean-up. Items affixed to headstones may stay, (i.e. grave saddles, monument-mounted vases), but any loose trinkets or items stuck in the ground around the stone must be removed. A semi-truck was reported stolen from a local business at approximately 2 p.m. on August 25, 2023. The semi-truck owner tracked the location by GPS and informed law enforcement of the stolen vehicle. A pursuit was initiated on I-94 eastbound at milepost 135 in Jackson County. During the pursuit, Tomah Police Department, Juneau County Sheriffs Office and Wisconsin State Patrol deployed Tire Deflation Devices. With many schools back in action, it means there will be all manner of kids and people out in neighborhoods. In many communities Police are planning on extra patrols to make sure the return to school is as safe as can be.

A new State Historical Museum will come with some changes for State Street. Madison’s Plan Commission last night approved the designs for a new museum, along with the demolition of two downtown buildings that are right next door. A number of people turned out to oppose the demolition of the two buildings, but commissioners said the new museum must move forward. Work on the new museum will begin next year, and should be done by 2026.

The City of Marshfield was notified by Canadian National Railroad they will be repairing the crossing at S. Galvin Ave. & Veterans Parkway. The work is expected to be started/finished on the same day Wednesday, August 30, 2023. The requested closure will have a signed detour. On Friday August 25, 2023 at 2:58 p.m., the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office received a call of an abandoned boat floating near Cedar Swamp Island on the Chippewa Flowage in the Town of Hunter. Sawyer County Deputies responded to the scene assisted by the Wisconsin DNR, LCO Tribal Wardens, Federal Forest Service, Sawyer County Search & Rescue, St. Louis County Search and Rescue and the Sawyer County Dive Team. A Chippewa Falls man who posted sexually suggestive signs about a local woman is looking at stalking charges. Prosecutors added the charges yesterday against 43-year-old Mark Schlageter. Investigators say he was stalking his ex. Schlageter was charged earlier this month with defamation after police say he posted signs on several polls throughout the area calling a woman a meth dealer, and making several sexually suggestive comments. He was also charged back in June with domestic violence. Jail records show Schlageter

Prosecutors in Jackson County are moving ahead with their case against the man who they say lit eight fires over the past five months. The D.A.’s office announced the charges yesterday against 46-year-old Daniel Johnson. He’s accused of setting the fires in the Black River Falls area. The first fire was back on April 9th, and the last fire was August 10th. Firefighters say they ranged in size from a couple feet to more than 16 acres in one case.

Republicans at the Wisconsin Capitol are not giving-up on tax cuts. There’s a news conference for later this morning to introduce a new comprehensive tax relief package. Republican lawmakers wanted to include a three-and-a-half-billion-dollar tax cut in the new state budget, but Governor Evers vetoed it out. There are no details as to just what this new tax package will include.
