Lawsuit Filed in La Crosse PFAS Case

There is now a lawsuit against the city of La Crosse for the PFAS pollution just across the river. Attorneys for people living on French Island last month filed a 42 million-dollar lawsuit against La Crosse for the PFAS chemicals that have leaked into their wells. Harley Revs Up for Homecoming

Get ready to see a sea of motorcycles each summer in Milwaukee. Harley Davidson CEO Jochen Zeitz yesterday said they plan to have a Harley Homecoming each year. He said this weekend’s celebration shows how popular it is, and he doesn’t want to wait another five years to put on another show. Zeitz isn’t saying just what next year’s Homecoming will look like, but it will be from July 25th to the 28th.

Aerial Enforcement Underway

 Wisconsin State Patrol pilots are looking for traffic violations from the air. Today pilots will communicate with ground-based officers to stop drivers who they observe to be speeding or driving aggressively. The State Patrol says their primary mission is public safety which includes enforcing traffic laws. Aerial enforcement missions are often announced publicly to improve safety.

Air Quality Alert Remains in Place

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources air quality advisory will last until noon today. Outdoor workers, children, and pregnant women also advised to limit time outside. The D-N-R says while the weather is looking drier and milder it will not be the best day to stay outside for long periods of time  –especially for people suffering from respiratory illnesses and lung diseases.

DNR “Tackles” Case of Missing Fish

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is asking for community help with a particularly “fishy crime.”  An extremely rare brood Brown Trout stock was stolen from the St. Croix Falls State Fish Hatchery in June. The D-N-R says the trout are only found in one out of three-hundred-thousand  —  making them more than just another fish in the sea.  Multiple other sea creatures were also reported injured.

Million Dollar Bond Set in Madison Murder

A million-dollar bond is being set for three Madison men accused of a murder.  Keyonta Blaney, Nathaniel Douglas, and Julius Jones made their initial court appearances Friday and pleaded not guilty to first-degree intentional homicide.  They are accused of killing a 20-year-old man in downtown Madison last month.

More People Reaching Out for Help

New data shows more people in Wisconsin are using the suicide prevention hotline.  The Wisconsin Department of Health Services said in a news release Friday that the 988 Wisconsin Lifeline received nearly 92-thousand contacts in the past year.  Nearly 80-percent of those contacts were phone calls, and the rest were either text messages or online chats.  Sunday marks one year since the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline became the three-digit phone number 988.

DCI Investigating Barron Co. Incident

At approximately 2:30 p.m., U.S. Marshals, assisted by Barron County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Barron Police Department Officers, were in pursuit of a wanted subject on Highway 8 in the City of Barron. The subject collided with a civilian vehicle stopped on the side of the road and officers approached the vehicle to take the subject into custody. Man Arrested, 3rd OWI

On Friday July 14, 2023 at 8:57pm the Barron County 911 Center received a call of a 2 car accident on Hwy 63 at19 th Ave, just west of Cumberland. The caller reported no injuries. A deputy from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of the crash. During the course of his investigation he determined that the driver of one of the vehicles was under the influence of an intoxicant and went to place him under arrest.
