WI Slides into Drought

More of Wisconsin is sliding into deeper drought. This week’s U-S Drought Monitor Map is now showing a new area of exceptional drought–the top end of severity–over a section of Southwest Wisconsin. Almost all of the southern half of the state is in exceptional, extreme or severe drought. There’s also a new area of extreme drought in Northeast Wisconsin. Nearly 85 percent of Wisconsin is under some level of drought.

Deadly St. Croix Co. Crash Under Investigation

The St. Croix County Emergency Communication Center received a call at about 10:48 p.m. on August 16, 2023, reporting a motor vehicle crash with injuries on USH 63, at 200th Ave., in the Town of Forest. The St. Croix County Emergency Communication Center received a call at about 7:58 p.m. onSeptember 4, 2023, reporting an ATV crash in the 800 block of 205th Ave, in the Town of Star Prairie.Deputies arrived on scene and located a 2004 Polaris in the roadway, which had been operated byShane M. New Rules for Chippewa Recycling

Wisconsin’s electronics recycling law bans all electronics from Wisconsin landfills and incinerators.  Many electronics also contain harmful materials, including lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium, other heavy metals and chemical flame retardants. When improperly disposed of, these chemicals can pollute our soil and water and harm human health. Citizens Law Enforcement Academy Comes to Barron Co.

Suspect Arrested in UW Student Attack

Police in Madison say a hodge-podge of video connected them to the man suspected of raping and beating a young UW student last weekend. Officers yesterday said they’ve arrested 26-year-old Brandon Thompson for the attack on Sunday. Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes says there is video that shows Thompson following the young woman before the attack. Gov. Evers Promises Veto of Tax Cut Package

Wisconsin’s governor is promising to veto the next tax cut package from Republican lawmakers. Governor Tony Evers took to Twitter yesterday to say he won’t sign the three-billion-dollar tax cut package that lawmakers are working on. The governor says Wisconsin can’t afford it, and says he already signed a tax cut for people making less than 19-thousand dollars a year. Eau Claire County’s administrator says she’s looking forward, not back now that her job is safe. Administrator Kathryn Schauf yesterday said she is ‘optimistic now that the county board has ended its look into the DHS investigation. Earlier this week, county supervisors voted not to fire Schauf for how she handled the investigation.
