It is going to be dangerously hot across the Chippewa Valley today. The National Weather Service says the advisory goes into effect at noon today, and runs til 8 p.m. tonight. Forecasters are warning of temperatures in the 90s and a heat index above 100. Gavel Drops: Guilty on All Counts

It took a jury about half-an-hour to find Green Bay’s chopper guilty of murdering, then dismembering her boyfriend.  The jury yesterday found Taylor Schabusiness guilty on all counts.  Her trial ended shortly after prosecutors played her taped interview with police from just after the murder in February of last year.  Schabusiness admitted to police that she strangled her boyfriend.  She called it ‘random.’  The jury is not done, however.  Jurors have to decide today if Schabusiness will spend the rest

Marine Death Under Investigation

 It was carbon monoxide that killed a Madison-area Marine. Investigators in North Carolina yesterday said a carbon monoxide leak killed Lance Corporal Tanner Kaltenberg and two other Marines. They were found dead in a car off-base on Sunday. No one is saying just where the carbon monoxide came from, or why the three didn’t escape. Kaltenberg was a graduate of Verona High School and had been on active duty since May 2021.

Judge Rules Kid Competent to Stand Trial

A judge says the 11-year-old Milwaukee boy accused of killing his mom over a virtual reality headset is competent enough to stand trial.  The judge made the ruling despite a split opinion from the two psychologists who interviewed the boy.  Milwaukee Police say the boy was 10 years old when took his mother’s gun and shot her in the head last fall after she refused to buy him a VR headset.  Family members say the boy then ordered the headset

Missing Brewer Fan Found

 A missing Brewer fan has been found. Milwaukee Police issued an alert for 53-year-old Schawn Pfeifer yesterday. Officers say he went missing about 2 p.m. at American Family Field when he became separated from his group. Milwaukee Police said last night that Pfeifer had been found. No one is saying where he went, where he was found, or if alcohol played a role in his disappearance.

The next blue ribbon-winning pie at the county fair could be worth more money.   Wisconsin lawmakers are scheduled to hear a plan that will double the money available for prizes at county fairs across the state.  Right now, Wisconsin’s Department of Agriculture pays up to ten- thousand dollars in prize money per fair to county fairs across the state.  The new plan would raise that to 20-thousand dollars.  The new plan also keeps Wisconsin’s ban on entering multiple county fairs.  Though the proposal

DNR Looking For Land

Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources is looking for land for disabled hunters. The DNR is asking landowners to volunteer to host disabled hunters this deer season. The DNR says volunteers must have at least 60 acres, so they can host three hunters. The disabled hunting program has been going strong for 30 years. The top Airbnb host in Wisconsin is the man behind the Shed in Sturgeon Bay. Airbnb yesterday named Glen Vander Velden as the number-one host in the Badger State. Vander Velden’s home, the Quiet Country Shed, has 250 five-star reviews. Vander Velden gives his wife most of the credit, saying she’s a perfectionist and wants to make sure people have a wonderful experience at the Shed. Lightening Strikes Truck

The owner of the pickup truck hit by lightning in Slinger will have a story to tell! The Slinger Fire Department says a bolt of lightning struck Chad Baumgartner’s truck about 8 a.m. yesterday morning as a round of storms was moving through. Baumgartner says the lightning melted his dash and blew a hole in his windshield. He says the truck is likely a total loss, but said he’s more amazed at what happened than he is angry.
