A corn mill in Columbia County will pay the state of Wisconsin nearly a million dollars as part of a pollution settlement. Attorney General Josh Kaul announced yesterday that Didion Milling will pay 940-thousand dollars over the next four years to settle claims that the mill was polluting the air at both its mill, and the company’s ethanol plant. Hearing Wraps Up, Ruling Expected Next Year

It will likely be next year before a judge in Chippewa County decides if the teenager accused of killing 10-year-old Lily Peters will be tried as an adult. A hearing in the case ended yesterday, but the judge said a ruling isn’t likely to come until January. Lawyers for the now-15-year-old accused of killing Peters want the case moved to juvenile court. The wait for a ruling is just the latest delay. Peters was killed in April of last year.

WI Sailor Accused of Selling Secrets

Federal prosecutors say the mother of the Wisconsin sailor accused of selling secrets to the Chinese encouraged him to do it. The claim came during Tuesday’s hearing for Jinchao Wei from Delevan. He’s accused of selling China information about his ship, as well as other secrets about U.S. military capabilities in the Pacific. Xcel Shines Light On New Solar Project

Xcel Energy is eyeing northwestern Wisconsin’s largest green energy project ever. The company yesterday opened the door to a 650-megawatt solar-specific project that combines solar with energy storage. Xcel says the idea is to use the green energy plant to replace the old, coal-fired King plant in Minnesota. That plant is supposed to come off-line in 2028. Xcel says it wants to cut its carbon emissions by 85 percent by 2030, and eventually become carbon-free.

WI Company’s Looks to Change Delivery Rules

Culver’s is among those who are seeking a change to delivery rules. The company told lawmakers on Tuesday that they want to be able to opt-out of delivery apps like DoorDash and UberEats because they can’t guarantee what happens to their food. Forbes has Milwaukee ranked as a Top-20 destination for young workers. The magazine came out with its rankings this week, and Milwaukee is 16th on the list. The city gets high marks for its low unemployment rate, median income, and median home price. Holy Dells! New Slide Makes National Splash

The nation’s largest water slide is coming to The Dells next summer. Noah’s Ark yesterday announced plans for a 145-foot-tall water slide, to be called The Rise of Icarus. The slide is actually a tower with several slides of varying height. The plan is to start work on the new tower after Labor Day, and have it ready for brave riders next summer. Wisconsin has the seventh-fewest underprivileged kids in America.  That’s according to WalletHub, which also puts Wisconsin in the top ten in three individual categories, socio-economic welfare, health, and education.  WalletHub says the state with the fewest underprivileged kids is New Jersey and the state with the most is Alaska.
