Republicans at the Wisconsin Capitol are ready to approve another doomed tax cut. The Assembly is set to vote this afternoon on a nearly three-billion-dollar tax cut package that would give most taxpayers in the state about 700 dollars of their money back. The Marching Falcons are back at UW-River Falls. The school fielded a marching band this year, for the first time in 33 years. Band director Tom Barnett says he’s heard from students for years that they’d like to come to River Falls, but there wasn’t a band. The new band has 56 members, who had just five days of practice to get ready for last week’s football game. Band members say it’s a lot of fun to play together at

Oktoberfest is looking at its 20th year in Chippewa Falls. Organizers say this weekend’s festival will mark two decades of celebrations. Missy Prissel with the Chippewa Falls Chamber of Commerce says this year’s festival will be just as exciting as the last, but may see more people. A 51-year-old man is dead after participating in the Ironman triathlon in Madison yesterday. IRONMAN Wisconsin says the man “suffered a medical event” in Cross Plains during the bike portion of the race. An off-duty police officer and a race staff member gave the man immediate medical assistance. He was taken by EMS to a hospital, where he died.  

The Village of Oconomowoc Lake is the wealthiest place in Wisconsin. That’s according to the American Community Survey by the US Census Bureau–listing the ten wealthiest cities in Wisconsin. The median annual household income in Oconomowoc Lake is 239 thousand dollars. Chenequa and Lac La Belle villages round out the top three. The rest of the top ten includes River Hills, Maple Bluff, Wrightstown, Merton, Mukwonago], Mequon, and Whitefish Bay.

Madison is looking to change the rules for pigs in the city. The Common Council is expected to vote on new rules that would allow people to own one pig, as long as it is vaccinated and neutered, inside the city limits. The move comes after a couple of pig owners were told they had to get rid of their pet swine. Madison’s Board of Health approved the changes last week, and recommended that the Common Council do the same.

Many of us remember exactly where we were 22 years ago today. Family members who lost loved ones in the 9-11 terror attacks will be gathering at the World Trade Center Memorial in Manhattan for the 22nd anniversary of the attacks today. Scott Pringle reports.  Locally, Eau Claire’s VFW reopened to remember 9/11. There was a crowd at the VFW Post 305 yesterday to remember the fallen, and to honor the first responders on the job here in Eau Claire.

A man is dead after a motorcycle crash in Polk County. It happened just before 5 a.m. yesterday morning in the Town of Clam Falls. Investigators say the man went off a curve, hit a sign, and ended-up deep in the woods.

The memorial for the western Wisconsin Girl Scouts run down five years ago is growing. Volunteers spent the weekend adding landscaping, benches, and a new walkway to the memorial in Lake Hallie. The memorial stands to remember the three Girl Scouts and one mom who were killed when a driver drove off the side of the road and ran them down back in 2018.
