WI City Celebrates 175 Years

The City of Racine celebrates its 175th birthday this weekend.

Residents filled out Festival Hall yesterday morning to share food and a sense of pride in the community. Mayor Cory Mason was on hand and led efforts to connect people with services and resources offered by the city.

French explorer Jacques Marquette and company were the first Europeans to set foot in the region in 1674 — the village of Racine, French for “root,” was incorporated as a village in 1841. It became a city shortly after Wisconsin joined the union in 1848.
