MKE Makes US Marshals List

Milwaukee was once again on the list for the US Marshals Service as part of its most recent sweep targeting violent criminals. Operation North Star Three cleared just under three-thousand violent warrants during the past three months, according to the Marshals Service. Investigators say they took 555 guns off the street, as well as a-million dollars in cash and a whole lot of illegal drugs. CVWR Gathers Acorns, Continues Wildlife Rehab

The folks at the Chippewa Valley Wildlife Rehabilitation Center are taking acorns early this year. Usually the center waits till October to start collecting acorns to feed the squirrels that are being rehabilitated there,  but managers said they want to get an early start this year. For the next couple of weeks you’ll be able to rake up the acorns in your yard and drop them off at a collection trailer at the rehab center. There are currently 27 squirrels

Zoo Looks to Upgrades for Rhino’s

Not everyone on the Milwaukee County Board is excited about the plan to replace the zoo’s rhino exhibit. Supervisors yesterday got to look at the 16-million-dollar price tag for the project. The zoo would pay another six-million, but the bulk of the money would come from Milwaukee County taxpayers. Add another state to the map for Kwik Trip. The company yesterday opened its first store in South Dakota. The new store is in Brandon, in the southeast corner of South Dakota. Kwik Trip says it plans to open five more stores in South Dakota over the next several months. South Dakota now makes it six states to be home to either a Kwik Trip or a Kwik Star.

East Hill Neighborhood Looks for New Mural

The city of Eau Claire is looking for somebody to design a new basketball court mural. Crews just finished resurfacing the Boyd Park basketball court, now they’re looking for someone to paint it. The East Side Hill Neighborhood group is asking local artists to paint the mural. Nothing is set in stone, the neighborhood group says they just want to see if there’s interest in some new art. EC County to Receive Funding to Address Drug Issues

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is giving the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office 350-thousand dollars to address opioid usage. The money will be used for medication-assisted treatment training, programs for keeping opioid users out of jail, and community drug disposal programs. Five other agencies across Wisconsin are also getting get financial support from the grant.

Xcel Energy to Expand Solar Projects

Today, the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission approved Xcel Energy’s expansion of the Sherco Solar project, which will soon become one of the biggest solar projects in the country. WI Deer Tests Positive for CWD

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) confirms that a Rock County deer farm has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD). The result was confirmed by the National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames, Iowa. The positive result came from a 4-year-old white-tailed buck. The farm has been placed under quarantine, where it will remain while DATCP and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) veterinarians and staff conduct the epidemiological investigation.
