Deadly Farming Accident in Grain Bin

On November 1st , 2023 at 12:29pm the Barron County 911 Center received a call of a grain bin accident, with a subject trapped inside just south of Barron. Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Barron Fire Department, Mayo Ambulance, Barron County First Responders and Life LinkHelicopter all responded to the scene. Search Continues for Smash and Grab Suspects

On October 29, 2023, Menomonie Police Department received 9 reports of smash and grab thefts from locked vehicles near parks. Two suspects used financial cards belonging to victims at the local Walmart. The suspects were observed operating a Grey, newer Dodge Durango RT, with unknown plates. Tricks, Treats, and Snow on the Feet!

Trick, treats, and snow on the feet! You were part of history if you braved the weather to dress up! Yesterday’s snowfall topped previous records in Eau Claire.  The National Weather Service reports two-point-one inches of snow fell in Eau Claire, breaking the previous record of two inches set in 1932.  Since records began being kept in the late 19th century, there has been measurable snowfall in Eau Claire on Halloween only three times.

Bring Out the Orange Cones

City officials in Eau Claire have decided to join an intergovernmental agreement to widen the County’s Highway T corridor.  Eau Claire and Chippewa Counties have also joined the regional compact for the project.  City officials say it would be the biggest project in the area since Highway 53 was completed.  Under the plan, County Highway T would expand from a two-lane road to four lanes along the corridor that stretches from North Crossing in Eau Claire County to Highway 29

Parking Rules Shift Into Effect

A reminder to Eau Claire motorists that alternate side parking restrictions take effect today. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has been ranked among the most affordable colleges in the United States.  The ranking comes from the scholarship site called Scholarship 360.  The study places UW-Eau Claire among the top six percent of colleges in the country.  The website says it bases its rankings on the affordability of schools and outcomes for students.

Open Enrollment for Health Insurance Starts Today

The open enrollment period for individual health insurance in Wisconsin is starting today.  Governor Tony Evers is reminding state residents to look into their options for existing and new plans before January 15th.  Evers says enrollment has gone up over the last several years, but, many are still uninsured because of limited options, eligibility issues, and other coverage barriers.  The governor adds that he plans to continue pushing for BadgerCare expansion and taking steps to grow Wisconsin’s health care workforce.

New Plant Opens in WI

Manufacturer Lucas Milhaupt, Inc. is set to open a new plant in the city later this month. A processor and fabricator of metal alloys, the 10-million dollar plant is designed for streamlined production and advancement of new product development. The grand opening of the new facility in the 48-hundred block of Pennsylvania Avenue is set for November 7th. The firm has offered the former facility, one mile south of the new plant, for sale.
