Deadly Crash Under Investigation

The St. Croix County Emergency Communication Center received a call at about 8:28 p.m. on December 23, 2023, reporting a single vehicle crash in the 2300 Block of 90th Ave, Baldwin Township. Deputies arrived on scene and located a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup, which had been traveling west on 90th Ave. The vehicle had entered the ditch and rolled, ejecting the driver. Mother Nature Delivers Warm Christmas Temps

Sunday could turn out to be the second-hottest Christmas Eve ever in southern Wisconsin.  Forecasters say morning lows will dip down only to the low to mid-40s.  This afternoon should be mostly cloudy, breezy, and warm as temperatures across most of southern Wisconsin climb up to the low to mid 50s.  The National Weather Service says Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be within the top ten warmest on record. Madison Bakery Packs Final Dozen

A popular sweet shop will be closing doors. Lane’s Bakery went into business in 1954, selling cookies, donuts, and classic Wisconsin Kringles.  Charles Lane is the grandson of the original owner and he’s worked in the bakery for 40 of its 69 years.  He and his wife Becky say they’re ready to let it go, but he says the transition is emotional and he’ll miss his customers most of all.  Lane’s Bakery will be open through Sunday.

WI Roads Fill Fast

Two-point-three million Wisconsinites will travel this holiday season from Christmas through New Years.   AAA Wisconsin reports that’s up two-point-seven percent over last year.   The Wisconsin State Patrol says on its Facebook page that the holiday season is one of the deadliest when it comes to drunk driving.  last year there were more than seven-thousand impaired crashes in Wisconsin, and 184 people died in OWI crashes.

RSV Deaths Confirmed in WI

The deaths from RSV in Wisconsin this season is confirmed.   The Health Department reported on Friday that one child in the southeastern part of the state and another in the northeastern region have died from the respiratory virus.  Health officials said respiratory illnesses, including flu, COVID, and RSV are rising across the state and they’re urging people of all ages to get vaccinated.

Proposal Would Address Age on Bench

A proposal at the state capitol would ban anyone 75-years-old or older from becoming a state judge or state supreme court justice.  Senate Bill 569 would apply both to judges running for election as well as judicial appointments.  A companion bill already passed in the Wisconsin State Assembly.  The law would not affect  federal judges.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court is ruling the state’s legislative maps are unconstitutional. Brian Shook reports. The Wisconsin Supreme Court is ruling the state’s legislative maps are unconstitutional. The current maps were drawn up by Republicans and are criticized as being among the most gerrymandered in the US.
