A western Wisconsin police chief is facing an OWI charge after wrecking a city car last week. The State Patrol is handling the investigation into Eleva Police Chief Patrick McKillip. Trempealeau County prosecutors filed OWI charges against the chief on Monday. The charges stem from a crash last Thursday just outside the police department. Chippewa Schools Go to Voters on Spring Ballot

Chippewa Falls Schools are asking voters for an extra seven million-dollars over the next three years to pay teachers more. The city’s school board last night approved a three year operating referendum for the April ballot. Push to Rename Tomah’s VA Honors Late Veteran

Western Wisconsin’s congressman wants to rename Tomah’s VA Hospital. Congressman Derrick Van Orden introduced legislation on Capitol Hill to rename the VA after Jason Simcakoski. Simcakoski is the Marine veteran who overdosed on opioids back in 2014 while being treated at the VA. His death led to an investigation of the Tomah facility. Human Trafficking Task Force Requests More Time

Wisconsin’s human trafficking task force wants more education and more time. The Speaker’s Task Force On Human Trafficking delivered its report yesterday. Task Force members spent four months hearing from experts, police and prosecutors, and advocates about what can be done to prevent people from being forced into prostitution. A Racine County man wants to oust Wisconsin’s powerful Assembly Speaker before this November’s election. Matthew Snorek of Burlington yesterday filed a recall notice against Speaker Robin Vos. Snorek says Vos is standing in the way of fair elections in the state because he hasn’t moved to impeach the administrator at the Wisconsin Elections Commission. Man Rescued from Snowblower

A Waukesha man says he learned his lesson after firefighters had to cut him out of his snowblower. It happened during Tuesday’s snow storm. Tyler Hoeffner told TMJ4 that it was his first time using his new snow blower, and he got his hand stuck in the shoot. MKE Crime Numbers Show Dips

Milwaukee’s crime numbers for 2023 are down, but they’re still nowhere near where they were before the coronavirus. The city’s police chief and mayor yesterday walked through the crime stats. Murders dropped 20 percent in 2023, and nonfatal shootings dropped four percent. But the number of murders and shootings is roughly twice what it was in 2019, before the pandemic. Injured Officer Begins Road to Recovery

The Milwaukee police officer wounded in last week’s domestic violence standoff has left the hospital. Officer Dan Morrell wheeled himself out of the hospital in a wheelchair yesterday. He was shot in the leg in a shootout with a suspect last Tuesday. Doctors said he may lose some feeling in his leg because the bullet broke his femur and nicked an artery. WI Dishes Up Plans for Summer Lunches

 Wisconsin will be participating in a federal summer food program for children. Governor Tony Evers says the Summer Electronic Benefits Program will help families who are eligible for free or reduced lunches during the school year. They will get food cards with 40-dollars per month per eligible child to be used on groceries. Wisconsin is one of 35 U-S states to take advantage of the program.  Nationally, it will give two-point-five billion federal dollars to the families of 21-million children.

WI DHS Urges Vaccinations

Pregnant Wisconsinites are being encouraged to get the RSV vaccine to protect  newborns from the virus. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says there are more than 14-hundred people in Wisconsin with RSV as of today.  Of those infected, 580 are under two years old. DHS says the RSV vaccine can be given to people between 32 weeks and 36 weeks-six days of pregnancy in order for their newborns to also get protection for the first six months of life.
