Suspect in Child’s Death is Adopted Brother

The suspect in the death of an eight-year-old in Rock County is the victim’s adopted brother. Prosecutors filed formal charges against 20-year-old Dayveon Lathrop on Friday. Those charges say Lathrop allegedly stabbed his adopted sister to death, then hid her body in a storage tote in the laundry room. Lathrop was arrested after the girl’s body was found last weekend, he was in court on Friday to face his formal charges.

Closing in on Hospital Closures

This is the last week for HSHS’ hospitals in the Chippewa Valley. Both Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls are set to close on Friday. HSHS announced back in January that it was going to close the hospitals because of costs and ‘industry pressures.’ Eau Claire’s other hospitals say they are ready to handle the influx of patients from HSHS. Alcohol a Factor in Deadly UTV Crash

Deputies in Monroe County say alcohol played a role in a deadly weekend UTV wreck. The sheriff’s office says a woman died when the UTV she was in flipped just after midnight Sunday. The man who was driving was taken to the hospital because of his injuries. Deputies say the woman was thrown from the UTV during the crash.

Search Continues for Missing Child

The people who have been looking for Elijah Vue for nearly a month say they want to bring him home. Elijah Vue, 3, is still missing.(Two Rivers Police Department) A group of friends, family, and volunteers held a vigil for the three-year-old who’s been missing from Two Rivers since February 20th. His mother and her boyfriend are in jail on neglect charges. Investigators say Elijah was with the boyfriend the night before he disappeared. Searchers have looked everywhere from Two

WI Spells Out a W-I-N-N-E-R

The 2024 Badger State Spelling Bee took place yesterday. Aiden Wijeyakulasuriya of Madison’s Blessed Sacrament took home the first place trophy.  They will go to DC for the Scripps National Spelling Bee along with second place finisher Nethraa Muthupandiyaraja of Franklin’s Forest Park Middle School. Before the event began, a tailgate was held with free hot dogs and brats.

WI School Closes for Remainder of March Due to Leak

Students in the Crandon School District will not be returning to the classroom for the rest of the month.  This comes after a carbon monoxide leak resulted in dozens of people needing to be treated for poisoning.  The current plan is for students and staff to return on April second.
