Tuition Hike Set, UW Campus Costs Climb

Tuition at UW-Eau Claire will be nearly 10 thousand-dollars next year thanks to a new tuition hike.  As expected, regents yesterday agreed to another tuition increase.  They  approved a three-point-seven-five percent tuition hike.  Regents also approved new fees for half of the state campuses.  Each campus charges different rates, but the tuition increase means tuition at UW-Madison will jump to almost 12 thousand-dollars a year.  UW President Jay Rothman says the tuition increase is needed to keep up with the

Chippewa Pool Makes Splash

The pool in Chippewa Falls isn’t closing anytime soon.  City parks director John Jimenez yesterday said the recent upgrades were successful, and said the pool will be able to stay open for years.  Chippewa Falls considered closing the Bernard Willi Pool, saying repairs and renovations would be too expensive.  But Jimenez yesterday said they were able to complete the work that will guarantee the pool for several more seasons.  The Willi Pool is set to open in just over two

State Bar Redefines Diversity

The State Bar of Wisconsin is not ending its diversity clerkship that faced a federal discrimination lawsuit, instead it is changing the definition of diversity.  The State Bar agreed to tweak the program, and make it about the diversity of ideas and experiences, rather than base the clerkship on race and gender.  The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty sued, saying it’s against the law to hire anyone based on their race or gender.

Search Expands, Boyfriend Faces Trial

The boyfriend of a missing three-year-old’s mother will face trial for child neglect.  Elijah Vue, 3, is still missing.(Two Rivers Police Department) Three-year-old Elijah Vue was last seen at the boyfriend’s, Jesse Vang, apartment in Two Rivers on February 20th.  Vang says he fell asleep while taking care of Vue and woke up to him gone.  His mother, Katrina Baur, says her son was staying at Vang’s so he could teach the three-year-old how to be a man.  Punishments for

New Bill Addresses History in Classrooms

Hmong American and Asian American histories are now required as part of Wisconsin public school K-12 curriculum.  The bipartisan bill was signed into law today by Governor Tony Evers.  Currently, Black, Hispanic and Native American histories are required.  Evers is also designating April as Hmong Heritage Month in Wisconsin.  The state has the third-largest population of Hmong people in the country.

Multi-County Project Planned in WI

A two-point-seven-million dollar roadway repavement project that will span multiple Wisconsin counties has been approved.  The project will rework a stretch of nearly ten miles of Wisconsin Highway 89, between Waterloo and Columbus.  The roadway goes through Columbia, Dane and Dodge counties.  A section of the highway will be closed from April 8th until early June.  Construction is scheduled to be complete in late June.
