Air Quality Advisory Stretches State

An air quality advisory has extended to some Southern Wisconsin areas through the evening. The state Department of Natural Resources says the diminished air quality is due to Canadian wildfires. The warning is for sensitive groups including people with heart or lung diseases, older people, and children.

DNA Doe Project Used in WI Cold Case

A previously unidentified person found dead and stuck in a chimney in Madison has been named. The body, found more than thirty years ago, was found in a pipe in the Good ‘n Loud Music Store on University Avenue. Ronnie Joe Kirk was originally from Oklahoma, but his last ties were in Wisconsin. He was identified through the DNA Doe Project using genetic genealogy.

WI Represented on National Stage

Two BMX bikers from Wood County are slated to compete in the World Championships. Eighteen-year-old Talynn Dickey and eight-year-old Rowyn Fischer will be part of the competition in South Carolina. Both girls qualified during performances in Virginia in February. The competition begins on Sunday.

Water Incident at Lakeside Cantina Under Investigation

On Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 9:10 p.m., the Barron County 911 Center received several calls of two people in the water near the docks at Lakeside Cantina in Chetek.
