Police say they went there to check and see if she was okay, but they are not saying exactly who placed the call for a welfare check. He was booked at the Walworth County Jail and charged on suspicion of homicide. Welsh, a 21-year-old NCAA title holder from Illinois, was studying management at the university.

The Department of Natural Resources says the bear population covers more than half of the state, mostly in northern and central Wisconsin forests.
