MORE CHARGES FOR HOLCOMBE MAN

A Holcombe man charged with killing another man in Rusk County is facing additional charges.  Preston Kraft appeared in Chippewa County court yesterday on charges that include second-degree recklessly endangering safety. He is also charged in Rusk County with homicide in connection with the death of Robert Pettit, who was found shot in the head. Kraft was captured and charged in May, after a five-day search.

NEW FIRE STATION IS HOT!

The public is getting a peek at the new Osseo Rural Fire Station after an open house.  The event was held yesterday to show off the 17-thousand square-foot facility. Features of the building include the ability for vehicles to drive through into the stalls, an added food pantry, and new offices and dispatch capabilities.  The cost of building the facility was just over two million dollars.

CHANGE UP AS EC CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT STEPS DOWN

Eau Claire City Council president Kerry Kincaid is stepping down. Kincaid announced her immediate resignation at last night’s council meeting, and she has served as council president since 2009, and has been on the council since 2004.  She didn’t give any further reason for her resignation.

WARM UP YOUR NECKS!

Get those neck massagers ready! It’s almost time to get your air-show pose on…and, some area Boy Scouts are helping prepare for the Chippewa Valley Air Show. The scouts and other volunteers laid out plastic yesterday, with cinder blocks and steel rods to hold it down.  The sheet will serve as a five-thousand foot long reference line that pilots will use as a guide during the air show.  Proceeds from the air show benefit the Boy Scouts of America.

MOVE OVER DIAL-UP!

Forget that scraping and screeching of old dial up…2018, here we come! Governor Walker was in our area yesterday to award a grant to expand broadband access in Eau Claire County.  The governor presented the grant to Packerland Broadband, which will also receive grants for projects in Marinette and Forest counties.  As part of the grant program, over 35-million dollars was added to the state budget for investments in broadband.

PLEA DEAL REACHED

The former Fall Creek football coach has reached a plea deal in his sexual assault case.   36-year-old Joshua Tumm appeared in court yesterday and pleaded no contest to fourth degree sexual assault. A criminal complaint was filed against Tumm in December by a 29-year-old woman who says he had nonconsensual sex with her while she had a BAC over three times the legal limit. Tumm is on unpaid suspension from the school district and was relieved of coaching duties in

CINDER CITY DAYS KICKS ASH!!!

Cinder City Days is in the books in Altoona and it kicked some ASH! The event had its strongest turnout yet. The festival wrapped up yesterday and included expanded events like a carnival, baseball games, and a craft fair.  Diamond Rio took stage Saturday night at the New River Prairie Park amphitheater.  The event raised money for the Lions Club, which will be put back into the community and toward organizations supported by Lions Club International.

The first weekend of the Chippewa Valley Parade of Homes is being called a success.  The tour features 15 homes and is organized by the Chippewa Valley Home Builders Association.  And the price tags hang out at around 200-thousand to more than a million dollars and organizers estimate around 35-hundred tickets have been sold so far, with a few of the favorite homes receiving more than a thousand

PLANE CRASH KILLS 4

Four people are dead after a fiery plane crash in our state. We know that two teens, along with their mother and grandmother were on board a light aircraft yesterday and died when it crashed in a wooded area in Green County. Authorities are assuming there were mechanical problems with the plane, however an investigation is underway.
