September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, and the public library in Eau Claire is inviting community members to sign up for a new library card or get a free replacement for lost or damaged cards all month. RX FOR WI DRUG ABUSE

More funding is now available for 50 Wisconsin counties and two tribes to help fund drug treatment and diversion programs.  Attorney General Brad Schimel says these programs help combat the ongoing fight against opioids and methamphetamine. Schimel said treatment courts are the best thing the criminal justice system has ever done.  The state will spend more than six-million-dollars this year for treatment and diversion programs.

STORMS HIT OUR AREA

Storm damage is being reported in Dunn County. Official say the damage mainly affected the parts near Boyceville south of Highway 170 yesterday, with a number of trees and power lines down. No injuries have been reported and it doesn’t sound like there is any significant damage to any structures, but there will be some cleanup for the area today.

CADOTT MAN FACES HOMICIDE CHARGE

A Cadott man is facing a homicide charge after a deadly crash. The crash happened early this year, in May, at the intersection of County Highway X and XX, near Cadott when Mavrick Kolpien ran a stop sign and turned in front of another car, causing a collision. His passenger, 23-year-old Zachary Evanson, was killed in the crash.

BUCKS FOR BUCKY GRADS

Governor Walker is proposing five-thousand dollars in tax relief to graduates who stay here in BuckyLand. The tax break would offer new graduates a thousand dollars per year for five years.  Those who owe less than a thousand dollars can keep the balance of the credit in cash.  Some education officials are calling it simply a talking point and won’t be effective at keeping graduates in state.

DOGGIE PADDLE FUR FUN!

Get ready to prefect your doggies paddle, FUR real as Fairfax Pool will go to the dogs during its “Doggie Swim Fest” from noon-3 p.m, next Monday. All proceeds benefit Eau Claire’s off-leash dog park and the Courthouse Comfort Dog initiative. All dogs participating must show proof of current vaccinations and there will be no people swimming that day. Again, that event is Monday September 3rd and you can get more information on the Eau Claire Parks and Rec website.

UW STOUT RENAMES BUILDING

The longest serving Chancellor in Stouts history will soon be honored. A building has been renamed to honor the accomplishments, leadership and legacy of late Chancellor Emeritus Charles W. Sorensen. Chancellor Bob Meyer made that announcement yesterday. The  UW System Board of Regents unanimously approved renaming Millennium Hall as Sorensen Hall. The renaming is effective immediately, although it will take time to erect new signs. DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER

If you think you are seeing more cop cars out lately, you are right.  The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is in full swing as police agencies across the state crack down on drunk drivers and those under the influence of drugs.  The campaign continues through Labor Day, September 3rd.  There were 161 alcohol related crash deaths in the Badger State last year.  There were also over 24-thousand traffic convictions for operating while impaired in the state.  There

STORMS HIT CHIPPEWA VALLEY

You might be rubbing those eyes if you were up shutting windows last night. Chippewa Valley residents are cleaning up after storms rolled through our area.  Strong winds knocked down trees and branches in Lake Hallie neighborhoods and the surrounding area yesterday afternoon.  The storms caused damage in several communities, but no power outages were reported-so there is no excuse to be late to work today.

VETERANS MEMORIAL PLANNED

The community of Fall Creek is raising money to bring a veterans memorial to town.  Five local churches came together at a community picnic yesterday to encourage donations to the cause.  The Fall Creek Legion Commander hopes to have meditation benches, a Howitzer, and poles for flags from each branch of service, the American flag, and the our state flag.
