COUPLE BUSTED; SELLING DRUGS NEAR SCHOOL

An Osseo man and woman are in custody after being accused of selling heroin near a school.  The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office says James Gunter and Kiera Whitman were witnessed selling the drug out of their home, which is about 500 feet from a school.  Sheriff’s deputies say they searched the house and found heroin, marijuana, packaging material, and other drug paraphernalia.

CHILD SUFFERS HEAD INJURY AT DAY CARE

A 13-month-old child is being treated for a head injury suffered at a day care in Chippewa Falls.  The Chippewa Valley YMCA says the injury happened around ten o’clock yesterday morning and the child had to be flown to the Twin Cities for treatment.  The YMCA CEO says she’s been in full contact with the child’s family but no update has been given on its condition.

LOCAL LAWMAKERS TALK MIDDLE CLASS TAX CUT

Four Chippewa Valley lawmakers are proposing a ten percent tax cut for middle class workers in Wisconsin.  Barron Representative Romaine Quinn says the group wants to cut taxes for families making less than 150-thousand dollars a year and individuals making less than 100-thousand dollars a year.  Quinn also says Governor Toy Evers promised a middle class tax break during his campaign and he wants them to work together on a plan they can both agree on.  About two-million Wisconsin residents would be impacted

IT’S HERE! GOLDEN HOUR FOR SILVERMINE

Silver Mine Hill is celebrating 50 years of ski jumping as the 133rd annual Silver Mine Invitational kicks off tonight.  The hill opened in March 1969 and has hosted multiple future Olympians, some of which will be competing this weekend.  Gates open for the competition at five o’clock tonight and four o’clock tomorrow night.

TEN YEAR OLD FACES ADULT COURT;HOMICIDE CHARGE

The ten-year-old charged in the death of an infant will continue to face an adult court.  The ten-year-old was back in court yesterday, charged in the death of six-month-old Jaxon Hunter.   Wisconsin law requires anyone ten-years-old or older and charged with first degree reckless homicide must be charged as an adult.  The girl’s lawyers attempted to get the charge dropped yesterday, but failed.

BARRON CO. SCHOOL PREPARES FOR POSSIBLE RETURN OF JAYME TO THE CLASSROOM

The Eau Claire Shopko Pharmacy is set to close.  No word yet on when the closing will happen.  Lake Hallie’s Shopko Pharmacy officials say they are remaining open.  News broke Wednesday that the store in La Crosse is closing.

A federal judge says early voting limits approved during a lame-duck session are invalid.  The judge struck down the limits yesterday, saying in a five page ruling that they too closely resemble one he struck down as unconstitutional in 2016.  The decision also eliminated parts of the lame-duck laws affecting IDs and other credentials that can be used for voting.  Governor Evers is opposing a plan proposed by Republicans to cut taxes for the middle class.  Evers’ spokeswoman says the

EAU CLAIRE MAN RETURNS TO COURT FOR ASSAULT CHARGES

An Eau Claire man is accused of sexually assaulting two children in separate incidents.  The alleged assaults happened around 15 years ago when the victims were under the age of 13.  Benjamin Heath denies the accusations and is due back in court at the beginning of March.

46 PRIESTS INVOLVED IN ABUSE CASES

Forty-seven clergy members and 98 victims, those are the numbers connected to an investigation of sexual abuse of minors by priests.  The Catholic Diocese of Green Bay today released the names of 46 priests involved and the list is available CLICK HERE on the diocese website.  The site also provides the number of allegations substantiated against each priest, along with the assignments associated with them while in the priesthood.
