TRAIN RETURN OFF THE RAILS

The old 2719 train won’t be coming home to Eau Claire anytime soon.  City leaders last night voted to abandon the effort to bring the historic train back to Eau Claire and use it as a museum piece.  Eau Claire bought the train for four dollars back in 2013.  But organizers have raised just 500 dollars of the 100- thousand-dollars it would take to get the train back from Minnesota and display it in Eau Claire.

FAMILIAR FACE SET TO JOIN LOCAL HALL OF FAME

Longtime teacher and coach Steve Roesler will be inducted into the McDonell Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 4 at McDonell Central Catholic High School. Roesler was the head coach of the boys and girls track teams at McDonell for 35 years. He coached 41 individual state champions, including at least one in each of the 14 events, and eight relay teams that took first at state. TEEN KILLED IN LAKE HALLIE CRASH

On Tuesday, April 09, 2019 at about 1:04am, Lake Hallie Police and the Chippewa Fire District personnel responded to a 911 report of a vehicle crash. A single vehicle was observed to have crashed and was burning. The crash had been reported by another motorist that drove past the scene after the crash occurred. On April 9, 2019 at approximately 9:30am Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Connell’s Club 12 west of Fall Creek on highway 12 for a reported burglary. An investigation is ongoing, but it appears the business was broken into between 11pm on Saturday April 6th and the time of the call. As Road Construction Season Begins, State Patrol Reminds Motorists to be Especially Cautious in Highway Work Zones. With another road construction season getting underway, the Wisconsin State Patrol is askingmotorists to be especially cautious when approaching and traveling through highway work zones. Work zone hazards often include narrow and shifted lanes, uneven pavements, construction workers and equipment all operating in a confined area. Last year, there were 3,157 crashes in Wisconsin work zones resulting in 1,274 injuries and nine deaths.

LEGISLATION LIGHTS UP FOR VAPING AGE

The people who want to stop teens from smoking in Wisconsin say they’re going to have to change because of a new law in Illinois.  Illinois’ governor signed a law Sunday that raises the age to buy cigarettes and vape products to 21.  Youth2Youth 4 Change director Debbie Fischer says anti-smoking groups like hers will now focus their efforts in Wisconsin towns along the border, to try and stop teens from Illinois who cross the state line to buy their smokes.
