DOWN POWER LINE INJURES WOMAN

A woman is in critical condition after being shocked by a downed power line in Polk County.  The county sheriff’s office says the 70-year-old woman came into contact with the line at a cabin on Half Moon Lake last Friday after a round of storms.  She was found next to a car that had the fallen line on it.

TEENS CHARGED AFTER AIRSOFT GUN INCIDENT

Two teenagers are being charged in connection with a June airsoft gun incident.  A criminal complaint says a witness saw someone point a gun from a car on 3rd Street.  Police tracked the car down and arrested driver Gabriel Kurschner after they found an airsoft gun.  Noah Beckstead was arrested a few days later in connection with the case.  They were both officially charged yesterday.

LID OFF CANNERY DISTRICT PLANS

The development plan for the Cannery District in downtown Eau Claire is approved.  The city council approved the plan last night.  The district will include a three-story urban housing development that will be built by the summer of 2021.  The city says some new jobs will come to the area during construction.

DOG KENNEL PLANS ANIMAL TESTING

Two Sauk County residents are planning to breed dogs for medical research.  A county committee approved a conditional use permit last night so Jill and Clinton Kane can operate the kennel.  The Kanes were originally denied a permit for the business last month but that decision was overturned unanimously last night.  The Kanes must follow guidelines from the Land Resources and Environmental Committee to keep their permit.

LACROSSE SAYS GOODBYE

Former La Crosse Police Chief Ron Tischer is officially off the job.  Yesterday was Tischer’s last day as chief and he received recognition from the city including a key to the city.  Tischer served seven years as chief.  He’s moving to Payson, Arizona to become the police chief there at the end of the month.

CAUSE OF WATER ST. EXPLOSION STILL UNKNOWN

Firefighters are not saying what blew-up in the kitchen at Gyro King on Water Street, but they say the explosion injured one person.  It happened yesterday afternoon.  Firefighters say they smelled gas afterward, so they evacuated nearby businesses and closed Water Street for a few hours.  Investigators say they’re still trying to figure out what caused the explosion.

ST.CROIX CO MAN ASKS FOR NEW TRIAL

A St. Croix County man is asking for a new trial after his reckless homicide conviction.  A jury found Kayle Fleischauer guilty in June of killing his 19-year-old son last year.  Police say Fleischauer was drunk at the time.  He claimed his son accidentally shot himself. The judge in the case heard arguments for a new trial yesterday, there’s no word when a ruling will come.

EC LOOKS TO SPEND MONEY TO BE AFFORDABLE

The city of Eau Claire is ready to spend almost three-quarters-of-a-million-dollars to help some folks find an affordable place to stay.  The city council last night approved a 700-thousand-dollar request to invest in affordable housing.  Two hundred-thousand of that will stay with the city, but the other half million is being earmarked for projects in the community.  Council member Andrew Werthmann says developers may be able to ask the city for part of the money as a loan, or the

WI SEES A SELLERS MARKET

It’s a seller’s market in Wisconsin right now.  The state’s Realtors Association says while fewer homes are on the market, the price for those homes that are available is going up.  Realtors say the average price for a home in Wisconsin topped 200-thousand-dollars last month.  But home sales are down.  The Wisconsin Realtors Association says sales dropped almost 10-percent last month.  June is supposed to be the busiest month of the year for home sales.
